Job Summary
Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) seeks a Lead Applications Specialist to work closely with client partners across the institution. This position is responsible for the implementation, continuous upgrade and support of RISD’s ERP system and other enterprise applications and services. Daily responsibilities include providing applications support for coding, testing, documenting, troubleshooting, refinement and installation of programs/systems in order to satisfy user requirements. As well, this role follows change management procedures in compliance with audit guidelines.

Essential Functions:
- Lead functional teams in the implementation of various
enterprise applications and provide technical and analytical
guidance/leadership to assist in the education and development of
team members.
- Provide guidance to and serve as a point of escalation for
applications specialists. May provide input to the Director on
interviews, hires and performance situations.
- Assist Director in research projects to determine feasibility
and/or applicability of new technology to IT projects. Participate
in evaluating new software applications.
- Provide administrative software system support to complex
programs/systems including coding, testing, documenting,
troubleshooting, and refinement & installation in order to
satisfy user and legal/regulatory and audit requirements.
- Analyze and troubleshoot application environment problems to
determine proper resolution. Resolve complex technical problems
involving multiple application environments and applying
appropriate software patches. Follow up with users to ensure
patches are applied and appropriately tested.
- Provide application administration to support all system
related tools used by enterprise systems.
- Develop work statements and modification/enhancement
specifications for review and approval by the Director and end
user. Translate work statements and specifications into programming
code using appropriate software development tools.
- Responsible for the Change Management procedures to verify
program changes are maintained in accordance audit requirements, to
comply with the separation of duties.
- Recommend, develop and maintain programming
standards/policies/procedures to ensure the integrity and
cohesiveness of custom programming.
- Assist in the areas of the ERP system and other Enterprise
Application systems as needed.
- Work closely with the other OIT professional staff as
appropriate.
- Provide on-call support and coverage for off-hours when
necessary.
- Assist in the development and maintenance data import/export
interfaces between the ERP system and various internal/external
databases and systems as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- BS degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
- Five to seven years application programming experience plus
demonstrated ability to lead large scale ERP system and service
projects and to work directly with vendors.
- Previous experience delivering presentations to user
departments and/or management as required.
- Must have experience supporting ERP systems preferably in
higher education.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communications
skills.
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with wide variety
of users operating at all technical skill levels. Ability to
interpret user needs to appropriate technology solutions.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of ad-hoc
project-based groups.
- Experience and familiarity with Datatel software applications,
Envision toolkit, Colleague Studio and SQL, Java/J2EE a plus.
