Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor of Economics

The Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor of Economics (with an earned Ph.D. degree) is a full-time, non-tenure-line faculty position within the School of Business Administration at Penn State Harrisburg. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to start in August 2025. The successful candidate must share our commitment to teaching, research, and service; contribute to our efforts to create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for students; and engage in service activities supporting institutional goals. This is a term position.

Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of the position include:

Teaching: the successful candidate will teach four classes (12 credit hours) each semester including both undergraduate and graduate courses in Economics. The courses may be in residence, online, or hybrid. Specific courses are likely to include Econ 102 (Introductory Microeconomic Analysis and Policy) and Econ 104 (Introductory Macroeconomic Analysis and Policy) as well as econometrics and other elective courses at varying levels. The successful candidate is also expected to advise students, employ innovative teaching methods, collaborate with the Center for Teaching Excellence, develop relevant course materials, and ensure assurance of learning through active engagement, feedback, and assessments of students.

Research/Scholarship Accomplishments: All non-tenure-line faculty are expected to remain active in professional organizations and scholarly pursuits.

Service: All faculty are expected to undertake committee work, community engagement, and mentorship, and make other contributions to the campus, to DEIB goals and initiatives, and to the broader academic community.

Qualifications: To be considered for the Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor of Economics, candidates should possess the following qualifications:

Education: a graduate degree in Economics, with a Ph.D. preferred.

Expertise: Ability to teach a variety of courses in Economics, including Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, and other electives in support of the School of Business Administration programs.

Experience: Previous experience teaching economics at the college level.

DEIB Commitment: Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to transforming teaching methods, communication approaches, course materials, learning objectives, and learning environments to support the diverse needs of student populations at Penn State Harrisburg. They should include any DEIB initiatives that are in line with the DEIB goals of the school and college.
