JOB SUMMARY:

The Department of Mathematics at Greensboro College invites applications for an Assistant Professor position starting in the fall semester of 2025. The department offers BS degrees in mathematics, mathematics education, and data science.  The chosen candidate will be expected to teach a wide variety of courses that support not only the majors in mathematics and data science but also the general student population. A successful applicant will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level and should be capable of establishing and sustaining an active professional development program.

CAMPUS OVERVIEW:

Greensboro College is a private, four-year, liberal-arts institution and, in keeping with the historic United Methodist ideal of nonsectarian education, is an equal opportunity employer.  The college seeks persons for the faculty who are strongly committed to effective teaching, who will maintain high academic standards, and who are willing to work closely with students in and out of class.

USNews.com ranked Greensboro, NC in their top 100 best places to live as “one of those places that's big enough to have everything you need but small enough for you to regularly bump into people you know”.  Greensboro is part of the Piedmont Triad and is nicknamed the "Gate City" with good reason: it's a short trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west or a beach weekend to the east.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics, or data science. Candidates who expect to complete a Ph.D. by the beginning of employment (Fall 2025) will also be considered.
  • Evidence of teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Evidence of teaching excellence in mathematics or data science at the undergraduate level.
  • Ability and willingness to teach a broad range of upper-division mathematics and data science courses.
  • Experience or interest in designing courses and curriculum, student recruitment, directing internships, research, and independent study projects with undergraduate students.
  • Commitment and ability to maintain an active professional development program.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

APPLICATION INFORMATION:

Please upload a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, and provide contact information for three professional references to your application. Additional materials may be asked of the candidate at a later time. Review of candidates will begin on January 10, 2025, and it will continue until the position is filled.
