Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor

of Counseling & Human Development

(Non-Tenure Track)

(1-year, fiscal year contract)

Appointment January 1, 2025-December 31, 2025

Envisioned by our first President and created by an Act of Congress in 1821, GW is now the largest institution of higher education in the nation’s capital. The University offers comprehensive programs of undergraduate and graduate liberal arts study as well as degrees in medicine, public health, law, engineering, education, business, and international affairs. Each year, GW enrolls a diverse population of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students from all 50-states, the District of Columbia, and more than 20 countries.

Position. The School’s Counseling and Human Development Department seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor for teaching and administrative responsibilities aligned with departmental needs and advancing the department’s goal of training anti-racist, multiculturally and social justice-oriented counselors for the counseling profession.

 

This position will start as early as Spring 2025. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

Teach 2/3 or 3/2 courses during the academic year

Two courses in summer session 1, beginning Mid May to June 30, 2025.
Advising students in assigned classes but no formal advising. Attendance and participation in faculty meetings. Preferred teaching areas include substance use counseling, individual assessment or career development. Candidates with a strong prior clinical experience are preferred.  

Basic Qualifications. Applicants must have a Master’s in Counseling.

Other Information: To be hired at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, applicants must have a doctoral degree in counseling; to be hired at the rank of Visiting Instructor, applicants must have a Master’s in Counseling or be ABD Candidates in Counseling and Supervision.
