    Job Summary

    The Department of Psychology and Counseling at the University of Texas at Tyler invites qualified applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology position commencing January or August 2025.





    Essential Functions

    Duties and responsibilities include:
  • Teach graduate clinical psychology content and applied clinical courses in area of expertise, supervise practicum students, mentor student thesis and dissertation research;
  • Obtain external funding to support research, training, and service activities;
  • Develop a strong record of scholarship through empirical studies, and refereed publications;
  • Provide service to the field and profession at local, state, or national levels, and participate collaboratively in program, department, college, and university governance. Exceptionally qualified candidates may be eligible for significant University of Texas System Rising STARs startup funding.



Required Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited degree program and APA internship with license-eligibility in Texas. Candidates should also provide evidence of strong research and interpersonal skills and a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring graduate students. We are especially seeking candidates interested in joining a department with a Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in underserved populations. Our program focuses on geropsychology, veteran's issues, and rural mental health. As a relatively new PhD program, our clinical psychology PhD program recently received contingent accreditation from APA in health service psychology. We are seeking a faculty member with expertise in clinical neuropsychology and geropsychology, broadly applied.


  • In addition to campus and department resources, UT Tyler has a funded community-based research center, the Memory and Assessment Research Center (MARC) that is partnered with the Alzheimer's Alliance facility and provides ample clinical access and research data in the area of neuropsychology, geropsychology, and dementia. The new faculty member will provide oversight and supervision for clinical and research activities at the MARC. Experience working with diverse populations is highly desirable. Candidates will mentor graduate students in dissertation research, pursue external funding opportunities, and must meet UT Tyler requirements for the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.     Preferred Qualifications
    • Preference will be given to those with training and experience with evidence-based assessment methods, clinical neuropsychology/geropsychology, a record of research and scholarship, including external funding, and graduate teaching experience.



    Period Of Employment:
    • Positions will commence either January or August 2025.

    Additional Information

    The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
