Job Description:

The School of Art & Design at Texas State University invites applications from highly qualified candidates for a part-time position as Sculpture Studio Technician. The successful candidate will have expertise with equipment typically used in woodworking and sculptural processes including welding, casting/mold-making, metal/foundry, and experience working collaboratively in a studio environment. This position involves working independently and collaboratively with Sculpture faculty and staff to provide operational support for the safe and efficient functioning of the Sculpture area/classroom. This includes providing instructional support for faculty, technical support for students as needed, managing inventory and procurement, ensuring safety compliance, overseeing studio maintenance and infrastructure projects, cooperation with relevant university offices, and other projects or duties as needed.

This is a temporary, part-time position that averages 16 - 18 hours per week and is capped at 19.75 hours per week.
Preferred start date is January 2025

Qualifications:
• 3-5 years' experience working in and/or managing a sculpture/woodshop (non-student)
• Expertise with use, maintenance, and safety protocols with woodworking and metal equipment (ex. Table saw, bandsaw, welders, chop saw, etc.)
• High level of organizational skill
• Comfort communicating with diverse individuals (students, faculty, staff)
• Experience with inventory, managing, tracking, and ordering supplies and equipment


Responsibilities include:
- Training student workers and related faculty in Woodshop and on other Sculpture related equipment
- Scheduling and providing Demos on equipment as needed
- Purchasing, tracking, and receiving incoming materials and supplies through established vendors and TXST administrative protocols
- Overseeing supply levels in Woodshop and Sculpture Area and ordering/stocking when needed
- Repairing and maintaining all tools/equipment in Woodshop and Sculpture Area
- Updating Tool inventory spreadsheet as needed
- Provide assistance to sculpture faculty as needed
- Provide assistance to students as needed
