This position supports the overall work of the Inclusion and Equity department, focusing on organizational development and managing enterprise-wide initiatives and groups advancing the university’s shared equity leadership framework.

Primary Duties:
  • Work collaboratively with the Inclusion and Equity (I&E) team to accelerate the understanding and practice of Shared Equity Leadership to foster campus buy-in, action, and accountability.

  • Assist in the design, coordination and implementation of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives aligned with the University’s strategic goals.

  • Support I&E work with colleges, divisions, and units across campus to deepen inclusion and equity commitments and outcomes.

  • Lead, facilitate and coordinate various initiatives, programs and projects in conjunction with the Inclusion & Equity team.

  • Support the Inclusion & Equity Institute's work with internal and external clients around learning and organizational development.

  • Support the development of interventions that enhance the recruitment, hiring, retention, and success of historically underrepresented and structurally excluded faculty, staff, and students.

  • Assist with the development and management of websites, social media, and other technological tools to enhance the work of the I&E team.

  • Share responsibility for the supervision of student employees, interns, practicum, and graduate students.

  • Serve as an I&E team representative at various GVSU and community functions, as requested.

  • Track and assess program effectiveness, write reports, and assist with short and long-term strategic planning.

  • Participate in university-wide projects and committees as assigned.

  • Assume responsibility for the office in the absence of I&E leadership.

  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility related to spending and track budgets assigned.

  • Serve as a resource/support for communication needs and crisis intervention.

  • Travel to various locations and be willing to work some non-traditional hours for events.

  • Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institution

  • Minimum of two to five (2-5) years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination.

  • Successful experience managing projects and leveraging teamwork to drive shared goals.

  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, organizational, cross-cultural and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to concepts of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.

  • Demonstrated practice of confidentiality, discretion, ethical judgment, critical thinking and collaboration.

  • Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with constituents from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and experiences.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree

  • Understanding of social justice as both theory and practice.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing inclusion and equity-related programs, projects, and initiatives.

  • Experience in program evaluation and assessment.

Salary & Benefits: Starting salary is $60,000.
