Job Description

The School of Art at Louisiana State University seeks an open-rank, tenure-track professor in Digital Art.

The Digital Art program at LSU operates at the intersection of advanced technology and creative expression. Current sponsored research includes the development of virtual production curricula and capabilities, digital twin technology for NASA's largest manufacturing facility, and simulation of electron microscopy. Additional projects in human-computer interaction, emerging media, and visualization are also underway in collaboration with departments across engineering, computer science, emergency medicine, coastal science, electronic music, film and television, and the Veterinary School. Our program offers access to extensive resources including digital fabrication laboratories and state-of-the-art digital twinning equipment for LIDAR 3D scanning, photogrammetry, virtual environment creation, and physical computing facilities, in addition to those offered by a close relationship with LSU’s Center for Computation and Technology.

We are looking for an innovative practitioner and dedicated educator, whose expertise in digital art engages the academic scope and research goals of the School of Art in partnership with the Digital Media Arts and Engineering program. Candidates with clear evidence of potential for excellence in teaching, sponsored research & creative activity, and service are encouraged to apply.

A successful candidate may have experience or the capacity to exhibit, publish, or distribute creative works in digital art or any number of related fields such as VFX, compositing, animation, 3D modeling, digital sculpting, virtual reality (VR), electronic art, interactive installation, human computer interaction (HCI), games as art, game studies, serious games, user experience (UX/UI), computer graphics, new media art, or game art production.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate students, sustaining an active record of research and creative practice in digital art, and contributing to service activities. The candidate will also maintain a commitment to ensuring an inclusive and collaborative environment that promotes diversity and creative freedom.

Job Responsibilities

  • Teaching 55%:  This position will teach at the undergraduate and graduate level in digital art and video games.
  • Research 35%: Candidate is expected to participate in scholarly and/or professional research or creative activities.
  • Service 10%:  Provide services to the School, College, and University, and help lead program development. Participate in student advising and mentoring.

 

Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree in field relevant to digital art. Individuals without a terminal degree but with requisite professional practice in their respective fields, will be considered. An appropriate blend of education and experience in digital art to effectively fulfill the essential research, teaching, and service duties of the role.
