Job Description

To support the core functions of Child Care Aware of Minnesota – Northeast services throughout Region 3 and beyond if needed. To collaborate with the MN Department of Children, Youth, and Families to implement program development for childcare providers by coaching providers as they go through the Minnesota Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS), called Parent Aware, including CLASS Coaching. This position will also support and promote other services provided by Child Care Aware in the Region and create community awareness of these services through community partnerships and agency collaborations.

Please Note: Pine Technical and Community College currently utilizes offices for some of our Child Care Aware department employees covering the Northeast District at our affiliated campus of Lake Superior College in Duluth, MN. This position will be located at Lake Superior College in Duluth, but as an employee of Pine Technical and Community College.

Minimum Qualifications

Per our partnership with the MN Department of Children, Youth, and Families, these educational qualifications are required:
  • Education Qualification: Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or School-Age Care along with two years of direct experience working with children ages 0 – 12

    **NOTE: Employees with Associate’s Degree must be actively/continuously in progress towards a Bachelor’s Degree in related field to be attained within 6 years of hire

  • Qualitative and quantitative analysis sufficient to evaluate program-related data and extract meaningful information to apply operations

  • Knowledge of child development, early learning standards and community resources.

  • Sufficient understanding of public program operations and the ability to link processes to the purpose of the program, provide procedural technical advice to clients and program information to government officials.

  • Human relations skills sufficient to interact with potential clients making inquiries about the program, via phone, email, individually or addressing small groups.

  • Ability to read, write and edit letters, memos bulletins, policy/procedures and reports sufficient to interpret and apply them to resolve eligibility and rule changes.

  • Ability to adapt to continuous organizational and program, policy and procedural changes working in a team environment.

Preferred Qualification
  • Recent Experience in governmental budgeting and legislative processes sufficient to review, analyze and suggest changes to proposed public programs and budgetary proposals ensuring funds are properly expended and reported.

  • Knowledge of the State of MN QRIS (Quality Rating and Improvement System) – Parent Aware, including Motivational Interviewing, Reflective Practice, CLASS Observation and Assessment training and skills.

  • Training verified on MN Center for Professional Development:MN ECIPs; Overview of Curriculum, Assessment: Gathering and Using Information; Motivational Interviewing & Reflective Practice; Environmental Rating Scale; CLASS Awareness; Relationship Based Professional Development

  • Knowledge of Minnesota State Colleges & Universities, Department of Children, Youth, and Families and Child Care Aware.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communications and working relationships.

  • Ability to explain programs and clarify ambiguous language to clients and the general public.

Range of Pay: $23.63 - $34.18 per hour; pay within this range dependent on education and work experience and internal equity.

Other Requirements

In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (Minnesota State) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
