This position creates data wrangling queries and supports report and dashboard development. This role focuses on developing technical documentation for Business Intelligence (BI) dashboards, and reports using data governance best- practices, ensuring stakeholders can easily find, manipulate, and evaluate data,; and make informed decisions to optimize student success and university business operations.

PRIMARY DUTIES

1. Lead BI software development, deployment and maintenance with a focus on user experience and accessibility.  

2. Work with a diverse group of stakeholders to gather, parse, and validate business requirements, translating them into technical requirements to build and maintain BI interfaces. 

3. Review, maintain, and enhance BI dashboards and reports to ensure they deliver actionable insights

4. Identify data sources based on established business requirements, provide reporting requirements for data model changes, and conduct data analysis to determine relationships and to identify trends.   

5. Extract/mine large volumes of data using complex optimized SQL queries from varying data sources, such as databases and cloud-based platforms to ensure the data is accurate and up to date as driven by business requirements.

6. Integrate predictive analytics or machine learning models into dashboards for advanced insights. 

7. Present BI insights and recommendations to stakeholders and leadership to demonstrate value, drive future projects, and guide strategic decisions.

8. Oversee access control to BI platforms, maintain secure data pipelines and follow data governance guidelines. 

9. Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.  

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (such as Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field) or an equivalent blend of education and a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience. 
  • SQL, Business Intelligence, and Data Management: Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with SQL and BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms. Proficient in sourcing, analyzing, and structuring data from multiple sources, with the ability to design and implement data validation processes to ensure accuracy and integrity. 
  • Proven experience in designing, developing, and maintaining user-friendly, accessible dashboards, with a strong focus on creating intuitive user interfaces and ensuring compliance with accessibility standards.
  • Teamwork and Independent Work: Ability to collaborate effectively within a team or work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating a self-motivated approach to problem-solving and task completion. 
  • Stakeholder Communication: Proven ability to collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather, analyze, and interpret business requirements, effectively translating them into actionable technical solutions.
  • Ability to integrate external APIs for real-time data gathering into BI platforms (e.g., connecting to third-party systems for real-time analytics).
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Experience using and extracting data from common ERP and SIS platforms in a higher-ed setting. 
  • Utilize automation tools (like Python, R, or others) for scheduled reporting and ensuring that redundant manual processes are automated.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior developers or team members on BI tools and best practices.
  • Experience working with large datasets and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure and M365 tools.
  • Experience with SQL Server, Oracle, and Azure data storage.

Salary & Benefits: Minimum starting salary of $73,000, commensurate with experience.
