Job Summary

The Director of Policy and Compliance is a senior leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing policies, procedures, and initiatives, to ensure regulatory compliance and ethical standards universitywide. A member of the Office of the President, this incumbent is charged with leading and directing the Policy Advisory Committee, serving as a resource for University Policy developers and administrators, maintaining the University Policy Library, and updating University Policy and Procedure documents, as appropriate.

Job Duties

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
  • This position involves strategic planning, risk assessment, and collaboration with stakeholders (Board of Regents, President, Counsel, etc,) to establish and maintain a culture of compliance and integrity.
  • The individual is charged with administration of the University Policy Management Program, which includes maintenance of physical copies of all signed university policies, maintaining an archive of changes or amendments, and maintaining the university policy website.
  • Director of Policy & Compliance will also review all new and revised policies for consistency, and manage the final approval process.
  • In consultation with the responsible division and program managers, have the authority to make clerical changes to policies, including updating names, offices, links, citations, and formatting (substantive changes must go through the appropriate approval process).
  • Lead the development, review, and implementation of organizational policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular reviews of existing policies to assess effectiveness, relevance, and alignment with business objectives, making recommendations for updates or revisions as needed.
  • Serves as a primary point-of-contact regarding the University’s policy development and revision process; advises on the possible interaction between proposed policies with other existing policies.
  • Researches and analyzes policy concepts, complex policy issues, possible legal implications, and the impact of proposed policies and policy revisions on key areas of the institution; consults with subject-matter experts, as needed.
  • Assists with the policy development process by ensuring consistency and avoiding duplication or conflicts among policies; identifies policies, procedures, processes or practices that could be revised, simplified, eliminated or created to better meet the needs of the University community.
  • Ensures policies are published in a timely manner and in a format that is user-friendly, consistent, and compliant with public record requirements; maintains a schedule for the routine review and revision of existing policies.

Requested Minimum Qualifications

Education
The successful candidate must have a Terminal degree (JD, PhD, EdD) from an accredited university, in Business Administration, Legal Studies, Regulatory Compliance or a similar discipline.

Experience
Eight (8) or more years of experience working in compliance, risk management, employment law, or related roles, with demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing HR practices and employment is required. Three (3) or more years of the above-stated experience must be in a leadership role is also required.

Other Preferences for Consideration

Preferences
  • Experience in compliance, specific to higher education. and membership in professional associations (e.g., SCCE, IIA, etc.) are desirable.
  • Licensure/Certification in a relevant discipline (e.g., CCEP, CCEP -I, CRCM, etc.) is preferred.
