Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Career Development educates and supports students and recent alumni in achieving success with their professional goals. Areas of responsibility include career advising, teaching at least one section of Introduction to Professional Development each semester, developing, and delivering educational programming, and collaborating with the Career Development Center and others on campus wide recruitment, engagement, and career related events.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Educate and assist students and alumni with career related topics (choice of major, resumes, cover letters, job/internship searches, graduate school application process, etc.) through individual appointments and programs/workshops; administer and interpret career assessment instruments, such as Holland Code, Myers-Briggs, DISC, etc.
  • Design and deliver programs on career planning, the job/internship search, applying to graduate school, etc. and coordinate outreach to faculty for all classroom visits
  • Teach up to two sections of the Professional Development course (MGMT 105) each semester.
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate the Career Ambassadors and when necessary, the front desk student assistants.
  • Provide oversight of the marketing of workshops and events via campus communication outlets, social media platforms, etc.
  • Serve as office lead for educational outreach and trainings for faculty and staff
  • Maintain and update MySU pages and career planning resources such as resume guides, etc.
  • Collaborate with campus partners including but not limited to academic departments, Athletics, University and Alumni Relations and Student Life to provide programs and services related to career development for students, alumni, faculty and staff including the planning and execution of Break Through and other related events.
  • Assist with campus wide recruitment and retention programs including Preview Days.
  • Maintain ongoing professional development via active participation with relevant professional organizations such as EACE, PennACE, and NACE.

    Required Qualifications:
    Master’s degree in higher education or related field is required. Experience in career development with traditional age college students is required. Teaching experience is highly desirable. Experience in workshop and program development required.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Supervisory experience of paraprofessional staff (student employees) is preferred.
