Job Description

1. Provide General Financial Aid Advising and Awarding. Counsel, advise and interact with students and parents on their application and eligibility for financial aid to facilitate the delivery of aid while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality. Resolve conflicts, solve problems, and make judgments for special conditions reviews, dependency overrides and study abroad reviews. Make eligibility determinations, process aid applications, and package awards to insure maximum utilization of funds. When awarding aid, it is necessary for funds to conform to office awarding policies, and it is consistent, equitable and complies with funding source regulations. Advise students on alternative methods of financing their education if their satisfactory progress appeal is not successful. Advise and educate students on the consequences of loan debt, consolidation, deferment, and forbearances. 2. Certify Student Loans. Process student loan applications for all student loan programs. These programs include the Federal Direct Loans, the Minnesota SELF Loan, and all Private Alternative Loan Programs. Determine student eligibility and approve applications in accordance with rules and regulations for each specific loan program. Manage and administer the certification and disbursement of funds. Verify the accuracy of the electronic-transfers and prepare funds for disbursement to students’ accounts. Adjust aid types and dollar amounts as necessary to stay in compliance with regulations. Use professional judgment in adjusting the financial aid budget of students. Perform monthly and annual loan reconciliation in accordance with Federal, State, and institutional regulations. 3. Manage and Administer Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Reviews. At the end of each semester an academic evaluation of each student needs to be performed to ensure all students are meeting the Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress standards. Students who fall below standards will be put on either financial aid warning, suspension, or probation. Any student who is suspended has the option to appeal their suspension. This position will evaluate all financial aid appeals and determine if extenuating warrant a possible reinstatement of aid. 4. Support the Warrior Hub Integrated Academic Services Delivery Model. Deliver information and resolve issues across areas represented within the Warrior Hub (Enrollment Services, Financial Aid, Records and Registration, Student Accounts) on behalf of the university for students, prospective students, parents/families, faculty, staff, administration, guests, and the public. Intake, review, and process various forms and workflows. Emphasis on walk up counseling on various issues relating to WSU Enrollment Services area. 5. Process Verifications. Interpret and apply the Federal rules and regulations regarding the verification process. Assess accuracy of information received against confidential tax documents. Identify corrections and perform a recalculation of aid eligibility after revisions have been made to ensure the correct eligibility is calculated. Submit corrections to the Federal Central Processor. Confirm accurate completion of corrections when received back from the Federal Central Processor. Monitor discrepancies between information verified by the Financial Aid Office and corrections submitted directly to the Federal Central Processor by the student. Certify the verified applications as ready to award. 6. Represent the Warrior Hub at on and off campus Admissions receptions, TRIO programing, and other institutional events to discuss financial aid matters with current and prospective students and parents. Present to orientation classes for first-year students. 7. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of Winona State University. Including but not limited to participating on committees and work groups and participating in professional development opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Two (2) years of experience in customer relations, information management, student development, or enrollment services.
  • Technical skills to process electronic workflows, maintain data, and generate reports.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and electronic communication skills.
  • Ability to formulate solutions to multifaceted problems.
  • Ability to set priorities, manage time effectively and handle multiple responsibilities simultaneous.
Preferred Qualification
  • Master’s Degree
  • Knowledge of financial aid process and procedures.
  • Knowledge of degree audit process and procedures.
  • Knowledge of student development.
  • Ability to proactively initiate and build positive relationships with diverse populations.
  • Commitment to working in an integrated services environment.
