Job Description:

Responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of research studies in the department. The position coordinates data maintenance, grant expenditure adherence, project evaluation, meeting scheduling, and research subject interfacing. Serves as a point of contact for study participants, research personnel and support staff. Adheres to good clinical practices, study protocols, and applicable regulations. The Research Project Coordinator conducts complex work and contributes to measurable team objectives. Uses discretion to provide solutions to issues. Performs work that is varied and that does not follow prescribed procedures or processes and is responsible for effective operations and use of resources, rather than clinical outcomes.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will develop surveys, ordering research and office items, undergo training through IRB to collect and analyze data, promote the program for student hiring, managing their payment and disbursement of funds. The person will also assist in developing academic and industrial collaborations, generate quotes, purchase orders, and keep track of all records for grant purposes. The person is also expected support generating grant reports. The person will also be responsible for upkeep of the instruments and maintain inventory of the purchased items through the grant.

The person will also assist in supervising research in the molecular (recombinant DNA technology and transcriptomics), biochemical (protein expression and purification), bioenergy (fuel cells), bioinformatics (drug discovery), and cell biology (animal cell line maintenance). The person will provide support to the SURI, CURE, PBL, and graduate labs conducted during the coursework by Dr. Ray in the Department of Natural Sciences. The person will assist in writing manuscripts and will be responsible for generating data for grants. The Research Program Coordinator will work with the faculty, maintain inventory, and supervise daily chores in the lab. In addition, the person will provide oversight and maintenance for the experimental plants in the greenhouse and provide support to the ongoing grants and projects. The person will also help supervise graduate research in Dr. Ray's lab in the Department of Natural Sciences.

Minimum Qualifications:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • B.S. or higher in Biology, Biological Science, Biomedical Sciences or related field required, M.S. or PhD in Biology, Biological Science, Biomedical Sciences or related field preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated leadership ability and a growth mindset
  • Experience with undergraduate and graduate research management or implementation is preferred
  • Experience with working with multiple stakeholders, with demonstrated familiarity with planning and executing schedules effectively is a must
  • Ability to work independently with a strong work ethic is a must
  • Knowledge or expertise of common laboratory procedures, with demonstrated ability to learn new protocols for successful implementation, with demonstrated emphasis on laboratory safety
  • Knowledge of research ethics and research integrity
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to work in teams.
  • Capable of supporting collaborative research programs involving undergraduate students.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines as required.
  • Ability to track performance and report activities as required.
  • Experience working with various stakeholders, such as students, faculty, staff, and administrators with exquisite professionalism and poise.
  • Experience working with underrepresented minorities in STEM.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • B.S. or higher in Biology, Biological Science, Biomedical Sciences or related field required, M.S. or PhD in Biology, Biological Science, Biomedical Sciences or related field preferred
