The College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) combines Northeastern University's signature approach to experiential learning with liberal arts education, interdisciplinary research, and community engagement, both locally and globally.
The College comprises 17 academic units, including two schools, seven departments, and eight interdisciplinary programs, as well as 15 research centers and institutes. Our faculty connects liberal arts education with the challenges of our time, and fosters ethical reasoning and critical thought, with attention to the enduring significance of history, literature, and culture. CSSH promotes inquiry with global perspectives and a culture of inclusion across interdisciplinary clusters of expertise including: Resilience, Sustainability, Health, and Equity; Cultural studies, Governance, and Globalization; and Network Science, Computational Social Science, Digital Humanities, and Data Ethics.

This is a one-year, full-time, benefits-eligible position, with the potential of extension depending on funding.
Responsibilities:
Join the team at the Boston Area Research Initiative (BARI)! We advance civically engaged research that pursues social, economic, and environmental justice in partnership with the communities of Greater Boston. The Community Relations and Program Manager is a critical part of BARI's work at the intersection of universities, public officials, and other community leaders, acting as a primary interface between the center and our partners. The role entails: the organization of public programming, most notably BARI's annual conference and our community based-trainings in the use of BARI's Boston Data Portal; the communication of BARI's work and activities via social media channels; facilitating connections between faculty, staff, and students at Northeastern and other universities with potential collaborators at public agencies, non-profit organizations, and other local institutions; and minor tasks supporting BARI's day-to-day operations.
BARI's work is realized by an "intergenerational team," composed of faculty, staff, postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students, with an emphasis on robust collaboration and learning among team members with diverse skills and perspectives. Applicants should have a considerable interest in urban issues and in how data and technology can be leveraged to benefit communities, but do not need to be experts in data analysis themselves.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or related professional experience. 3-5 years of relevant professional experience (i.e. event planning, working in higher education setting, project management, community work, etc.).
- Must possess excellent writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, utilizing social media, and ability to learn additional software/platforms.
- Able to effectively communicate and collaborate with people with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and expertise.
- Takes initiative and actively seeks to find solutions, both independently and as part of a dynamic team.
Documents to Submit:
Resume and cover letter required.
Applicants should submit a resume and a cover letter that highlights qualifications for the position and includes a diversity statement. In the diversity statement, applicants should describe how they can support CSSH's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Applicants can provide specific examples of initiatives they have led or participated in that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. This could include organizing events or programs, implementing policies or practices, serving on committees, or creating spaces that foster a sense of belonging for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
