The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), part of the State University of New York and an internationally renowned college of art, design, business and technology with a strong emphasis on liberal arts, invites nominations and applications for a Technician Coordinator.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Assistant to the Dean of the School of Art and Design, the Technician Coordinator works closely with the chairpersons and staff within the School of Art and Design to ensure the appropriate allocation and scheduling of technicians. 

Supervises, plans, directs, and evaluates the work of technicians and develops scheduling plans that allow for the maximum coverage of labs and classrooms.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise technicians, providing guidance, training, and mentorship while ensuring work is performed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Inspect classrooms and labs regularly, request necessary maintenance and/or repairs.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures, identify unsafe conditions, report incidents and ensure compliance with College policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Monitor inventory of materials and equipment, maintain accurate records, and prepare reports.
  • Anticipate issues and solve problems as they occur.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certificate of Fitness (COF) certification, certifying the ability to safely use, store and handle dangerous materials in the workplace.
  • Five years' experience as a supervisor preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Excellent planning, leadership and interpersonal skills. 
  • Highly detail-oriented with a proven track record of meeting goals and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to obtain and ensure the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials.
  • Strong analytical skills to monitor, assess performance, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint) and Google applications, including Drive, Docs, Sheets, Calendar, etc.

Salary 

Salary: Salary: $86,025.55 per year 

The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment. Hiring Salary: $86,025.55 per year with step increments per Salary Schedule 95, after one year of service and annually thereafter.

Work Schedule

Days/Hours: M-F, 9am-5pm, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
