Salary and Benefits

PLEASE NOTE: The starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $60,000.00 per year to $70,000.00 per year.

This position is a Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position in the CSU and serves at the pleasure of the President.

The CSU enjoys a generous benefits program with employer paid life insurance ($100,000), as well as health, dental, and vision insurance with the monthly premium largely paid by the CSU. Additionally, we offer a broad range of other benefits which includes dependent and health care reimbursement accounts, tuition fee waiver, 401k, 457 and 403(b) plans. The CSU belongs to the CalPERS retirement plan in which medical and dental insurance continues in qualified retirement. The CSU has 14 paid holidays, one personal holiday and the position earns 24 days of vacation and 12 days of sick leave per year. This position may be eligible to participate in the Cal State East Bay hybrid telecommute program subject to management approval.

About the Position

Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement, the Assistant Director is a key member of the Office of Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement. This position is responsible for developing and managing alumni engagement, fundraising programs and events that support the strategic goals of the department and University Advancement. This role also focuses on improving existing initiatives, applying best practices, and engaging the alumni community, faculty, staff, students, and leadership to support the University’s mission.

The Assistant Director of Annual Giving & Alumni Engagement is further responsible for growing, soliciting, and stewarding donor segments and works closely with Advancement communications staff on alumni outreach, including digital and social media. Additionally, this position serves as the staff liaison for the Cal State East Bay Alumni Association and Board.

Responsibilities

Annual Giving:
  • With the Director, develop, implement and assess programs and/or events that promote engagement and philanthropy
  • In collaboration with the Director and Assistant Director, plan and execute annual giving campaigns, including but not limited to: Giving Tuesday, Giving Day and Senior Class Gift
  • Recruit, train and manage annual giving volunteers
  • Plan events (including marketing, programming and follow-up) that increase giving and engagement among alumni and students
  • Personally solicit alumni for annual fund gifts
Alumni Programs, Services & Benefits:
  • Coordinate the day-to-day management of alumni events, services and benefits
  • Research emerging opportunities and expand services and benefits for alumni
  • Track usage, attendance and satisfaction data related to alumni programs and activities
  • Provide necessary documentation and follow-up to donors, volunteers and internal partners, inputting all volunteer and alumni activity into CRM
  • Coordinate volunteer strategies with other development staff, including events, programming and social networking efforts
Other Duties as Assigned:
  • Respond to alumni inquiries
  • Assist alumni with understanding and accessing resources
  • Create content and stories for website, newsletters and social media
  • Track departmental budget and process invoices
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education, training and relevant experience
  • Two-plus (2+) years events management
  • One (1) year of progressively responsible management experience which includes supervising professional staff
Required Qualifications
  • Competence in computer applications such as, Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and tools
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to inspire enthusiasm and motivate students, alumni, volunteers and others
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Project management experience
Preferred Skills and Knowledge
  • Experience managing volunteers
  • Fundraising experience
  • Knowledge of email marketing and social media trends
  • Active social media user preferred
Special Conditions
  • May have to work some evenings and weekends
  • Events will include outdoor activities
  • Automobile travel will be necessary
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license and comply with the Defensive Drivers Training program requirements if a vehicle is used to travel on official business
Condition(s) of Employment

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including LiveScan, as appropriate), that may include, but is not limited to: criminal records check, verification of academic credentials, licenses, certificates, credit history, professional references and/or verification of work history is required for employment. Cal State East Bay will issue a conditional offer of employment to the selected candidate, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Unsatisfactory results may also affect the continued employment of current Cal State East Bay employees who were conditionally offered the position.

All background checks are conducted through the university's third party vendor, Accurate. LiveScan is conducted through the University Police Department.
