POSITION SUMMARY

Provides advanced individual and group tutoring services in specific academic area(s) in an open lab and/or one-on-one setting in support of instructional programs. May participate in training and evaluating other tutors and assists in the creation of tutoring resources and materials as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Normal physical job functions performed within a standard office environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Occasionally may be required to lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds.

- Ability to provide advanced level tutoring to students in open
lab/self-paced settings that facilitates a learning climate that is
open and encourages problem solving/critical thinking and ensures
that the students' knowledge is challenged and probed.
- Ability to conduct group and individual tutoring sessions to
determine what skill areas require additional assistance.
- Must be able to motivate and support student(s) through
positive feedback and reinforcement.
- Must be able to explain concepts in a manner that students
understand.
- Ability to perform essential functions utilizing knowledge and
skills within the specific subject area(s) of support.
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with
students, staff, and faculty regarding tutor/student
assignment(s).
- Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all student
information, material, and discussions shared in the tutoring
relationship.
- Ability to assist students in the development of study skills
and techniques to help improve their academic performance by
adopting tutoring methods to meet their needs.
- Ability to provide excellent academic expertise and adapt
tutoring methods to meet the student needs.
- Experience working with underserved and marginalized
communities.
- Must be patience, have excellent interpersonal, coaching, oral,
and written communication skills to be able to interact with a
student population in a fast-paced, constantly changing
environment.
- Must be punctual, begin all sessions promptly, use time for
academic tasks, and focus on the student’s needs.
- Must be able to provide excellent customer service.
- Provides advanced tutoring to Dallas College students in open
lab/self-paced settings through collaborative interactions to
assess student’s need, provide constructive and accurate feedback,
engage critical thinking, and encourage independence.
- Assists students individually or in small groups utilizing
appropriate resources to clarify concepts and complete assigned
material.
- Assists students in developing study plans to improve study
methods including the selection of appropriate resources.
- Performs activities that assist students to improve academic
achievement including discussion of class material and test
questions; offers information about learning strategies.
- Fosters a positive learning environment and promotes high
standards for academic success as students are guided through the
learning process as it pertains to understanding and engaging with
coursework, assignments, and projects.
- Serves as a role model to inspire students to achieve their
maximum potential.
- Provides input in developing and maintaining resource materials
needed to demonstrate learning objectives for use in tutoring
environment.
- Maintain records as required under department guidelines.
- Maintains confidentiality of student records.
- May develop and present tutor training and participate in
recruitment activities as assigned.
- May be assigned to provide indirect supervision to other lower
level tutors.
- Completes required Dallas College Professional Development
training hours per academic year.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Four semesters (or two years) of college level coursework (or
equivalent); or any combination of two of the following
qualifications: additional specialized training; indirect
supervisory duties; experience in a related field.
- Official transcripts will be required.
- Able to work after school hours, nights, and/or weekends.
- Bilingual or multilanguage preferred
