Ames National Laboratory is a U.S. Department of Energy federally contracted National Laboratory located in Ames, Iowa, on the campus of Iowa State University. We are dedicated to translating foundational science through applied research to create technological innovations. The project requires basic knowledge of ultra-high vacuum and cryogenics. Prior experience in experimental research in two-dimensional materials and interfaces and their atomic-scale scanning tunneling spectroscopy will also be advantageous. The work will include developing, planning, and performing low-temperature SPM experiments, critically analyzing results, performing optimization to improve outcomes, and generating reports, presentations, and manuscripts for publication.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, meet set milestones, and draft quarterly progress reports is essential. Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills with a positive attitude are also helpful in providing a professional work environment.
Part of the experimental work is designed to be conducted at the U.S. Department of Energy's User Facilities, and extended stays at the User Facilities are planned for this position.
