The successful candidate will join our 2 current equine ambulatory veterinarians (Drs. Joan Howard and Kara Frerichs) to enhance the regional prominence of the Equine Field Services program at Iowa State University through activities in clinical service, teaching, and scholarship. The majority of position responsibility will be dedicated to professional ambulatory clinical practice based at the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC), a state-of-the-art teaching hospital providing specialized care for companion and large animals throughout Iowa and surrounding states. Clinical practice will include training veterinary students at Iowa State University and house officers (interns/residents) within our large animal rotating internship or approved residency programs. A commitment to practicing a customer centered service philosophy and maintaining a collegial working environment is expected. As part of the general practice of equine ambulatory veterinary medicine, successful candidate is expected to develop/establish their skills and caseload within a focused, or niche, area of equine veterinary medicine.
Participation in didactic and laboratory teaching, independent or collaborative creative scholarship, and academic service are also expected. The extent of research, and other activities will be commensurate with the experience, rank, interests, and Position Responsibility Statement (PRS) of the successful candidate. The extent to which the successful candidate will be responsible for after-hours ambulatory on-call for Equine Field Services is flexible and may be discussed with the current Veterinary Clinical Sciences department chair (Dr. Wong).
The LVMC is a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide specialized care and comprehensive medical and surgical services for companion and large animals throughout Iowa and surrounding states. Our clinicians, residents, interns, technicians, staff, and senior veterinary students work collaboratively to provide 24-hour, high-quality care to animal patients. Equipment within the Equine Field Services includes an ambulatory veterinary truck, radiograph unit, dental equipment, ultrasonography unit, and endoscopic unit. Additionally, the Equine Field Services are able to schedule appointments in the LVMC and use the facility.
