About the Job
RESEARCH DESCRIPTION:
The successful applicant will perform data analysis related to understanding the dynamics of Jupiter’s magnetosphere and auroras. They will perform detailed analysis and interpretation of multi-instrument datasets returned by the Juno spacecraft. The candidate will also analyze Voyager 2 data and develop hypotheses that could be tested by a future Uranus orbiter. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Ali Sulaiman, will assist with graduate student supervision, and will collaborate with other members of the Space physics group.
The candidate will be expected to disseminate scientific findings through conference presentations and peer-review publications. Applying for extramural funding will be highly encouraged.
65%: Research on the dynamics of Jupiter’s magnetosphere and aurora through the analysis and interpretation of multi-instrument Juno data. The second is developing hypotheses for a future Uranus flagship. Additional responsibilities include developing new software for analysis and collaborating with other members of the Space Plasma group.
10% Supervision of graduate student and/or undergraduates participating in the research
10% Maintain familiarity with the latest results and methods in the field, reading relevant papers, organizing and participating in seminars and conferences.
15%: Communicating research to the broader community by writing papers, submitting them for publication in peer- reviewed journals, giving presentations at universities and laboratories, and presenting results at domestic and international conferences. Other duties of a similar scope as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. in space physics or planetary science including one or more years of research training. Specific relevant areas of study include space plasma physics, planetary magnetospheres, auroras and/or coupling with dynamic satellites.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in spacecraft data analysis, particularly fields and particles. Experience with SPICE kernels. Prior research in planetary systems.

Pay Range: $68,420.49 to $70,000 ; depending on education/qualifications/experience
