Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Student Activities and Organizations Coordinator.

About the Role

As a member of the Student Success, Well-Being, and Belonging division, the Student Activities and Organizations Coordinator (SAOC) performs a number of essential college student development functions within the university community. In addition to planning and implementing student programming, the SAOC advises the Hollins Activity Board (HAB), provides administrative oversight for student club and organization processes, and in conjunction with the Assistant Dean of Students (ADS), coordinates orientation for new students.

Specific duties include the following:

Student Advising

Hollins Activity Board (HAB):
  • Serve as co-advisor to HAB including attending weekly HAB meetings and holding regular meetings with HAB members.
  • Ensure all HAB events are managed and staffed according to university policies and procedures.


Student Clubs and Organizations:
  • Oversee all activities related to student organizations, ensuring group adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Act as first approval for club event space reservations.
  • Oversee all club budget activity in accordance with university and SGA policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement training and advising programs for student organizational leaders and faculty/staff advisors along with the SGA Club Coordinator and SGA Treasurer.
  • Serve as advisor to the SGA Club Coordinator.


General:
  • Approve all student event contracts in conjunction with the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
  • Work with HAB and student clubs and organizations to ensure proper budget management.


Event Planning
  • Plan and coordinate programs and activities for the student community with a particular focus on comprehensive fall and short-term programs that help connect students with the Roanoke Valley.
  • Manage the Student Activities budget.
  • Oversee Constitution Day and voter registration activities.
New Student Orientation
  • Help coordinate fall and spring New Student Orientation in conjunction with the Assistant Dean of Students and Director of First-Year Foundations.


Communications/Public Relations
  • Coordinate communication of events and activities to the student community.
  • Ensure office websites and social media platforms are regularly updated and maintained.
  • Assist with monitoring HAB social media accounts.
  • Develop and/or maintain all printed materials related to student groups and organizations (e.g., Student Handbook policies, short-term activities booklet, and training materials).
  • Assist with approval and publication of student events on internal websites.
  • Maintain and develop strong relationships with Roanoke community partners.
Campus Collaboration
  • Assist with ALL IN-voting initiatives in conjunction with the ADS.
  • Work with university departments to coordinate setup and breakdown of campus student events.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications on campus publications and student event advertising.
  • Collaborate with dining and catering services as needed.
  • Assist fostering inclusive and diverse communities.
  • Serve on committees and assist with special programs as directed.
Supervision
  • Recruit, train, and supervise department graduate assistants as needed.
  • Supervise undergraduate student staff.
Reports and Surveys
  • Complete annual institutional effectiveness reports and/or other year-end reports as directed.
  • Administer campus surveys and other appropriate assessments of programming efforts and services.
Position Qualifications

Successful applicants must have the following qualifications and experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in higher education, student personnel administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience.
  • Effective organizational, communication, interpersonal, customer service, and social media skills.
  • Demonstrated success and commitment to working with diverse populations.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Must be able to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
  • Valid United States driver’s license with minimal violations.
Preferred candidates will have experience with small institutions and single-sex education.
