Job Description Summary:
Responsible for providing leadership and supervision of student services in a designated region (north, central, or south) of the Austin Community College (ACC) District and leadership to a districtwide priority which may include but is not limited to one or more of the following areas: Academic Advising, Success Coaching, Testing, Student Conduct, and CARES (behavioral intervention team).

Description of Duties and Tasks
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provides leadership to deans, directors, managers, coordinators
and staff assigned to the Student Support Services division in a
supervision of student services staff and affairs in a designated
region using the Guided Pathways principles.
- Supervises, oversees, coaches, directs, mentors, counsels and
evaluates personnel in concert with college policy; recommends the
hiring, progressive discipline, and/or termination of personnel for
the positions assigned.
- Leads, contributes to, and supports policies, initiatives, and
strategies throughout the college designed to enhance student
access and success, to include leading the regional intervention
team.
- Provides leadership to collegewide efforts in the
implementation of Guided Pathways.
- Chairs regional CARES (Behavioral Intervention
Team).
- Collaborates with student affairs leadership to ensure cohesive
implementation of Guided Pathways strategies.
- Uses analytical, empirical, and data-informed approaches to
planning, problem-solving and decision making; and promotes a
culture that utilizes evidence-based practices among managers,
directors, and staff.
- Works collaboratively with student affairs and instructional
leadership to develop and apply appropriate data metrics to track
recruitment, entry, academic progress/persistence, completion, and
placement (transfer or job entry) of students.
- Ensures student rights and responsibilities are followed
including providing due process in student conduct
matters.
- Addresses the professional development and training needs of
all staff.
- Assumes responsibility for planning that strategically enables
the college to address future needs; oversees development and
administration of budgets for assigned functions; and, monitors and
approves expenditures.
- Regularly communicates and meets with to update and inform
managers, directors, coordinators and staff; and participates in
committee, shared, and non-shared governance meetings.
- Provides leadership and support to campus-based processes in
student conduct, appeals, and complaints in designated
region.
- Collaborates with instruction, student affairs, and operations
personnel to provide integrated and high quality campus
services.
- Provides leadership for the college's regional outreach to
educational institutions, businesses, and community-based
organizations to support relationships and partnerships that
enhance the college mission.
- Supports college leadership in strategic and organizational
planning processes to increase college completion, graduation, and
or transfer.
- Chairs collegewide shared governance committees and leads other
initiatives or committees.
- Participates in the acquisition and management of
grants.
- Participates in appropriate professional activities to
represent the college regionally and/or nationally.
Knowledge
Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Understanding of student development theory and student
discipline in a higher education setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in project planning, development,
implementation, and analysis.
- Preparing and presenting information and summary reports
internally and to the public.
- Understanding of the community college philosophy and
mission.
- Handling the demands and requirements of senior-level
management in higher education.
- Effective leadership and ethics techniques, including
Servant-Leadership principles.
Skills
Must possess required skills and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Experience incorporating theoretical and practical competencies
involving student development and higher education
management.
- Planning and managing budgets and personnel needs.
- Demonstrated success in working with student, staff, and
faculty regarding student conduct matters.
- Maintaining confidentiality in work-related information and
materials.
- Working effectively with a diverse and multi-cultural student
body and staff.
- Excellent communication, written and verbal, and interpersonal
skills.
- Providing leadership at all levels of the college.
- Planning, managing, prioritizing, and
problem-solving.
- Handling multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
Technology Skills
- Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and
presentation software.
Required Work Experience
- Five years related work experience including management in a
higher education academic environment.
Required Education
- Master's degree.
Preferred Education
- Doctorate degree.
