SUNY Broome Community College is a comprehensive community college located in the scenic Southern Tier of New York. The College has over 7,700 students annually, and services over 6,100 students per semester in Liberal Arts, Business & Professional Studies, Health Sciences, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs. An additional 1,600 students are served through the College's workforce and non-credit programs.
Job Description:
The Faculty-Student Association of Broome Community College, Inc. ("F-SA"), is a financially self-supporting corporation designed to provide a variety of auxiliary services and financial assistance for the benefit of the College community. The goal of the F-SA is to provide the very best auxiliary services and comprehensive financial support possible.
In direct support of the goals and mission of SUNY Broome Community College (the "College"), the Faculty-Student Association of Broome Community College, Inc. ("F-SA"), Director of Auxiliary Programs and Services serves as the primary liaison between the College and auxiliary services entities and contracted vendors. The incumbent is responsible for the administration and oversight of all auxiliary services and F-SA activities and operations, which includes the provision of food service, bookstore, child care, vending, housing, student activities and athletics, in addition to coordinating the F-SA Board activities.
These programs and services have a significant impact on and
influence service delivery to the entire college community. The
hands-on approach combined with a creative and innovative mindset,
in collaboration with Administration and Finance, is intended to
enhance the student experience and service delivery to the college
community.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
The Director of the F-SA Auxiliary Programs and Services reports to the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students, with a strong collaborative working relationship with the Assistant Controller of Finance.
Operations and leadership:
- Responsible for planning, strategic goals, project management and results of the auxiliary programs and services.
- Serves as primary point of contact and manages the contractual relationships with all auxiliary service providers, including Food Service and Vending, Housing, Bookstore, and Child Care, meeting regularly with each functional area director.
- Prepares requests for proposals as appropriate and acts as lead negotiator.
- Oversees/reviews performance of contracted operations. Negotiates renewal options on contracts as appropriate. Coordinates with the College for contractor funded capital projects.
- Ensures compliance of auxiliary programs and services with relevant College, Board of Trustees, SUNY, and state and federal regulations, laws, and education policies.
- Coordinates F-SA Board meetings in collaboration with Student Development and Administration and Finance Divisions, including preparing agendas and supporting documentation for regular and special meetings, and maintaining meeting minutes.
- Serves as Ex- Officio member on auxiliary related Board committees and task forces: F-SA, Housing and Childcare. Supports creation and modification of board policies and documents in collaboration with Student Development and Administration and Finance Divisions.
- Working closely with the Administration and Finance Division, recommends and implements approved policies and procedures processes which establish and maintain adequate control over programs and assets, ensures compliance with applicable policies, laws and regulations, and promotes efficient, effective and customer service-oriented operations.
- Conducts all personnel matters in accordance with federal, state and local EEO laws, regulations and agreement.
- Coordinates with the College Human Resources Office on personnel functions such as recruitment, hiring, onboarding, disciplinary, termination, furlough and exit for F-SA employees.
- Serves as point of contact for F-SA employee human resources issues including but not limited to health benefits, life insurance programs, etc.
- Serves as Title IX Investigator and Affirmative Action Officer.
- Serves as F-SA retirement and employee benefits liaison, managing the F-SA employee retirement and benefit programs; responding to F-SA employee questions and concerns in collaboration with the College Human Resources Office and the Administration and Finance Division.
- Maintains the F-SA Employee Handbook and updates as appropriate in collaboration with the College Human Resources department.
- Engages as appropriate with attorneys retained by the auxiliary entities and assists with auxiliary vendor relationships including contract review and modifications to the terms and scope of services.
- Acts as a liaison with other College departments to enable efficient and effective auxiliary services. Maintains open communication and collaborates with the Administration and Finance Division in support of auxiliary programs and services, remaining knowledgeable about the status of auxiliary finance and budget issues.
- Works closely with Sponsored Programs in an effort to cultivate grant funding opportunities and support assigned departments.
- Serves as main point of contact for all auxiliary service functions in the case of a declared emergency; serves as the liaison to F-SA contractual partners.
- Responds promptly as a key operational leader, particularly during emergencies or inclement weather conditions, to ensure continued operation of essential services such as food service.
- Executes other duties as assigned by the AVP/Dean of Students, FSA Board of Directors and/or as needed in support of the Administration and Finance Division.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or another related field from an accredited college or university is required.
A minimum of three (3) years progressively responsible experience in auxiliary management, small business, human resources and/or retail professions is required.
Required Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of office procedures and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to relate well and communicate effectively with a variety of people (campus leadership, colleagues, direct reports, faculty and staff, students, housing residents, visitors and the general public), from diverse backgrounds, in a diverse campus-setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experiences with one or more of the following assigned auxiliary operations: child care, food and vending services, residential life programs, and/or student activities/athletics.
- Working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations particularly as it relates to human resources.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and communicate information in both written and oral form.
- Demonstrated ability in implementing innovative and creative solutions in service delivery.
- Experience in a complex organizational model.
- Proven track record of successful partnership management and contract negotiations.
- Judgment/acuity, tact, professionalism, resourcefulness, transparency, dependability.
- Proficiency in general office technology including Microsoft and Google.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
- Knowledge and experience with grant writing, contract operations.
- Experience or knowledge managing a not-for-profit organization.
- Leadership and administrative experience in a higher education setting.
- Knowledge of the current trends and developments in auxiliary services.
- Not-for-profit board management.
Additional Information:
The salary for this position is $61,191.
Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
