Job Description:
Under direct supervision, prepares, collects, logs and labels laboratory specimens; sets up tests, and assists in laboratory activities and maintenance.
Responsibilities:
The laboratory research assistant will provide assistance in various fungal-related projects in Dr. Priscila Chaverri's lab. The projects are related to mycovirus detection using DNA and RNA, extracting high-quality DNA and RNA for whole-genome sequencing of plant pathogenic fungi, and assistance with undergraduate researchers training. In addition, the laboratory research assistant will help in the laboratory maintenance, for example, making list of supplies needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
The applicant should have previous experience with extraction and detection of double-strandced RNA viruses, DNA and RNA extraction, and other basic microbiology techniques (for example, fungal culturing).
