Position Summary and Primary Responsibilities:

The OB/GYN senior clerkship coordinator fulfills a key role in the OB/GYN departments interface with the School of Medicine (SOM). The senior clerkship coordinator is the face of the department to all the medical students who interact with us, especially in their third and fourth years. This position is a key liaison between students, faculty and SOM. The ideal candidate should have institutional knowledge as well as an in depth understanding of the complex clerkship management system, LEO. In addition, the OB/GYN senior clerkship coordinator would be able to display a great amount of patience and organizational skills as well as be able to deal with students in an exemplary manner even under very stressful situations. This position requires a keen ability to relate and communicate effectively with students, residents, faculty and Deans.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the MIII OB GYN clerkship.
  • Work with Course Director on development of new learning experiences for students.
  • Participate in curriculum planning, new course development, selection of materials and evaluation of instructional activities and student services/ programs/ policies.
  • Address and problem solve student issues related to medical education program.
  • Coordinate and Schedule Case Based Conferences, Lectures, Simulation Training, and Use of interactive cases.
  • Coordinate Student Orientation
  • Manage students Direct Observations, Required Clinical Experiences, CBC completion, and UWISE or U World completion.
  • Administer End of Clerkship Duties
  • Manage students on the Riverside service and Williamsburg site.
  • Support Grading Prep Administration
  • Oversee Fourth Year Duties

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite, database software, and other programs specific to clerkship.
  • Outstanding customer service skills and a high degree of professionalism and ability to communicate effectively with students and faculty
  • Ability to rapidly multi-task with excellent organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail, flexibility, and the ability to set and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of transcripts and expertise to generate required reports and letters for faculty and students.
  • Strict confidentiality and the use of sound judgment and discretion in the handling of sensitive and privileged information.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and Proficiency in use of LEO curriculum management system.
  • Prior experience and knowledge of educational requirements of clerkship, coverage issues of rotations and knowledge of the duty hours requirements for generation of complex schedules.
  • Experience working in a university setting and managing educational programs preferred.
  • Experience in generating summative report of faculty evaluations/comments of students etc.
