Scope of Job:
We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's student body as a Lecturer I of Department of Health and Biomedical Sciences beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year.

BS in Biomedical Sciences (BMED) degree/program pursues the application of classical and modern bioscience approaches to study human health. It is a preparatory degree for tomorrow's health care professionals, scientists, educators, and leaders and thus prepares students for successful admission to professional schools such as in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, and physician assistant programs as well as graduate studies in biomedical sciences.

Minimum Qualifications:
The qualifications to be considered as a 3-Year Lecturer is at least a master's degree in Biochemistry, Neuroscience, Microbiology, Immunology, Biomedical Sciences, Biology, or a related field of study from an accredited institution or a terminal degree in medicine, biomedical sciences or health professions. Teaching experience is required, preferentially in microbiology, immunology, anatomy & physiology, and organ system courses.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
Responsibilities include commitment to outstanding teaching in the Biomedical Science Program, specifically in medical biochemistry, neuroscience, microbiology, immunology, anatomy & physiology, and/or organ system courses and/or biomedical courses (both foundational and advanced; lecture or lab). Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or MS degree in Health or Biomedical Sciences or related discipline or an MD degree from an accredited university. Applicants must have at least 2 years teaching experience, which enables them to teach combinations of molecular/cell biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, microbiology, immunology, genetics, integrated body systems, anatomy & physiology, pathophysiology and biomedical courses (both foundational and advanced; lecture or lab). Responsibilities include commitment to outstanding teaching in the Biomedical Science Program, specifically the courses described above, and departmental services and other academic responsibilities as needed.

Preferred Qualification:
Ability to use technology and innovative pedagogy to support teaching and learning. Teaching experience at the college level and experience in laboratory techniques, especially microbiology and biomedical sciences, is highly desirable. Willingness to travel to different campuses for teaching is expected.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position mayrequire presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work isperformed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitiveand thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System ofTexas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional RetirementProgram (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per weekand at least 135 days in length.
