Williams College Campus Safety Services (CSS) is pleased to announce an immediate opportunity for a Campus Safety Services Officer. Under the general supervision of a Campus Safety Supervisor, the CSS Officer shall be responsible for maintaining the safety and security of persons and property on the university campus; identifying potential security and safety hazards; being observant and responding to major incidents, safety violations, and/or potential criminal activity on campus; maintaining good public relations by assisting others as a source of information and direction; overseeing the controlling and regulating of traffic and parking; investigating all security, safety, student conduct, and traffic incidents.

The CSS Officer may also be required to support the CSS Dispatch Officers by handling emergency and routine calls, maintaining the daily logs, dispatching officers accordingly, monitoring multiple computerized alarm and card access systems, and appropriately responding to and directing other calls.

The CSS Officer will be responsible for the checking out of equipment, keys, and access cards, as well as implementing emergency paging systems and other duties assigned.

Responsibilities:
  • General patrolling of campus, monitoring and responding to major incidents and any other activity on campus.
  • Responding to all calls for service from campus community members.
  • Enforcing policy and general rules/guidelines of the institution.
  • Completing routine and non-routine incident (or other) investigations and composing and developing written incident reports.
  • Assisting with the training of new officers, as needed.
  • Any other duties as assigned/applicable.


Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent).
  • Up to a year of related experience and/or training is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to handle routine and emergency (including medical and psychological) situations with excellent judgment and ease, including when multiple situations arise at the same time.
  • Cultural competency and sensitivity to effectively interact with the College community, fellow staff members, and the general public.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to build rapport.
  • Bilingual skills would be beneficial (but not required).
  • Computer competence, basic keyboarding, and typing skills...
  • Attention to detail to ensure accurate log entries.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime /other shifts on occasion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to express ideas effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software programs including website management.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, staff, public officials, civic and community groups, and the general public.
  • Commitment to, experience with, and ability to work effectively with a broad spectrum of individuals from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong time management, organizational, problem solving and project management skills.
  • Must be perceptive and patient, with strong people skills and a willingness to assist others.
  • Must be a self-starter who works well in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-oriented, and culturally diverse environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.


The current shifts available are four days on, two off with rotating days off, 11 pm to 7 am or 7 pm to 3am. Schedules are subject to change based on the needs of the department; mandatory shifts, overtime, and holiday hours may be required. This position comes with full benefits, including tuition assistance.

Application review will begin on October 11, 2024, and will continue until the position is filled. The pay range is from $18.75/hr to $24/hr, commensurate with experience.
