Position Description
The College of Science and Engineering at Texas State University has a highly successful and broad-based electronic materials research enterprise encompassing most of the commercially relevant semiconductor materials systems. Commercial applications include power electronics, broadband wireless amplifiers, opto-electronic devices, solar cell devices, magnetic devices, superconductor quantum computing devices, and novel semiconductor sensors among others. Our current electronic materials research faculty are highly innovative and are overseeing cutting-edge funded projects to develop and advance semiconductor materials’ properties to enable novel device performance. In partnership with TIE, the university is using funding from the Chips Act to develop technologies and workforce for semiconductor manufacturing.
The College of Science and Engineering invites applications for two tenure-track positions at a rank of Assistant/Associate Professor who will engage and collaborate with our electronic materials faculty to innovate and produce state-of-the-art semiconductor devices by being aligned with one or more of the following research areas: semiconductor manufacturing, growth device modeling, design, fabrication, and/or testing. Appointments at Professor rank may be considered for exceptional applicants.
The successful candidates will be expected to:
- Increase the research capabilities of the College of Science and Engineering in semiconductor devices, device simulation, and/or design, novel processing, materials, and/or manufacturing
- Exhibit a strong commitment to student-centered teaching and advising at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Participate in curriculum and program development
- Build partnerships with external stakeholders, including industry professionals, government agencies, and corporations
- Perform professional and university service
- Have experience in one or more of the following:
- Novel semiconductor device design and fabrication
- Emerging semiconductor devices; mixed column IV, III-Vs, III-Nitrides, Oxides, perovskites, magnetic and/or superconductor thin films
- Integrated circuits (digital, analog, mixed signal, RF & millimeter-wave, and photonic) for applications such as high power and high-speed electronics, RF, and microwave power devices
- Quantum devices and systems, neuromorphic and in-memory computing, and optoelectronics
Required Qualifications
At the Assistant Professor level:
- An earned doctorate in electrical engineering, physics or a closely related discipline.
- Potential to establish an externally funded, nationally recognized research program.
- A research agenda in one or more of the following areas: semiconductor manufacturing, device modeling, design, fabrication, and/or testing.
- Evidence of strong teaching abilities and the potential for success in graduate and undergraduate settings encompassing classroom instruction and teaching laboratories.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.
At the Associate Professor Level:
- An earned doctorate in electrical engineering, physics or a closely related discipline.
- A record of excellence in scholarship, teaching, and service; established national and international reputation; and demonstrated leadership experience commensurate with a tenured appointment at the rank of associate professor in either the Engineering or Physics department, or joint appointment.
- Evidence of a nationally and internationally recognized research agenda and a publication record with contributions in semiconductor materials and devices.
- An established and current funding record in writing, securing, and administering external grants, externally funded research, and/or corporate gifts.
- Proven ability of excellence in teaching as the instructor of record in undergraduate and graduate courses in ABET Accredited Electrical Engineering or discipline-equivalent programs.
Preferred Qualifications
At the Assistant Professor level:
- An ability to work collaboratively with faculty across multiple departments and programs.
- Industrial, or post-doctoral experience (in an area of expertise that complements those of the department faculty).
- Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: semiconductors materials and device manufacturing, with possible intersections with AI and ML.
- An ability to effectively mentor EE students at all
levels.
- An ability to work collaboratively with faculty across multiple departments and programs.
- Industrial, or post-doctoral experience (in an area of expertise that complements those of the department faculty).
- Knowledge about accreditation procedures and deliverables.
- Demonstrated experience in semiconductors materials and/or device manufacturing, with possible intersections with AI and ML.
- Record of being PI of several funded research in Semiconductor related areas.
- An ability to effectively mentor students at all levels.
