Directs, plans and leads University research activities and related activities of the educational, administrative and support services occurring within the University that is used to support decision-making.
- Prioritizes equity and social justice mission in assessment of institution practices and goals.
- Works collaboratively to identify, define, and prioritize institutional research and assessment in support of the areas of enrollment planning (including enrollment projections, recruitment yields, student retention, and student graduation); faculty instructional workload; academic and non-academic program review; instructional costs and academic productivity; peer benchmarking; student characteristics; and campus accreditation.
- Provides high-level leadership for the design, usage as a data source and continuing operation of existing enterprise data warehouse system.
- Develops and promotes policies for data governance and integrity.
- Works with faculty and staff to identify needs for information and problems for investigation, identifies areas for faculty participation in institutional research activities; conducts research to answer questions of an institutional nature; supervises the collection, analysis, and preservation of data for use by the institution in studies of University policies and operation.
- Oversee the development of comprehensive data models in responding to needs from college administration and external agencies; reviews, interprets, and disseminates findings of research studies.
- Monitors, reviews, and reports broad, national and industry trends in academia regarding collection, analysis, and reporting practices to keep current with evolving national practices.
- Directs and prepares a variety of both internal and external narrative and statistical records, reports and files related to research, projects, institutional assessment, planning, decision-making, quality improvement, policies, procedures, personnel, enrollment, and assigned activities. Including data for external reporting, such as accreditation and state and federal data.
- Participates in and provides leadership with the assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Provides data-informed recommendations centered on the student experience across diverse identities, backgrounds, and educational paths.
- Leads a team of 8-10 staff members
- Serves on university committees and task forces on an as-needed basis, as well as other duties to support the University’s mission.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team of research and data administration professionals; demonstrated ability to manage across a complex and dynamic set of projects with competing deadlines and priorities; evidence of content expertise in research design and statistical methodologies that include both qualitative and quantitative approaches; experience providing leadership with regard to data policy, governance, access, integration, and standards; demonstrated success in presenting data and analyses clearly and accurately in both verbal and written formats; and a proven ability to work in partnership with senior leadership.
- Demonstrated commitment to building and sustaining a diverse, inclusive, and equitable working and learning environment.
- Understanding of complexities inherent in large, multi-campus university systems.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from faculty, department chairs, program directors, deans, the provost, and the president.
- Doctorate degree in research methods, or in a field related to social sciences, measurement or quantitative methods.
- Ten years higher education experience involving a combination of strategic planning, program review, outcomes assessment and institutional research.
- Understanding of data warehouse structure, business intelligence models, and advanced applied statistical knowledge and skills.
- Experience with reporting and visualization platforms
- Experience with data governance initiatives and tools
- Experience with relational databases, SQL, programming languages, data mining, predictive analytics, and modeling
- Experience leading teams
