The Department of African American Studies at Loyola Marymount University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in the Fall of 2021. We are seeking candidates from across various disciplines with robust research agendas within the African American and African Diaspora Studies tradition – broadly defined. Strong candidates will have established a research agenda that aligns with the mission of the Department of African American Studies, as well as the College's and University's Strategic Plans.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong research agenda, as well as the ability to incorporate their research within a variety of upper and lower-division courses such as Introduction to African American Studies. The department greatly values community engagement, diversity, social justice, and inclusive pedagogy in fostering academic excellence. The typical teaching load for tenure-track faculty spread across two years is 2-2-2-3, with an expectation to advise students and to engage in university, college, and departmental service as needed. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to thrive in an interdisciplinary unit and have a demonstrated commitment to quality, innovative undergraduate liberal arts teaching.

To be considered for this position, please submit a cover letter, a c.v., and three letters of recommendation (i.e. writers should send letters of recommendation directly to email address link referenced below). Applicants are invited to submit materials to Tenure Line African American Studies (myworkdayjobs.com). The search committee will ask for additional material (writing samples, teaching philosophy, and sample syllabi) at a later date. Applications must be received by November 1, 2021. A Ph.D. or appropriate terminal degree is required. Preliminary interviews will be conducted on Zoom.
