Assistant Professor of Elementary Teacher Education

Position location: Kingston

The University of Rhode Island's Feinstein College of Education seeks applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor in elementary teacher education with a focus on science education and school/university partnerships. This is a full-time, nine-month appointment beginning in Fall 2025. The search committee is particularly interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will enhance the College's commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, and academic excellence.

The University of Rhode Island is a research-intensive university (Carnegie R1 research classification, as of January 2025) with a commitment to high-quality teaching and community partnerships. The Feinstein College of Education is a community of educational scholars, leaders, and practitioners with a shared commitment to enhancing equity and inclusion within and outside of schools, bridging research and practice, and serving diverse and underserved populations.

The Feinstein College of Education is home to the Guiding Education in Math and Science Network (GEMS-NET), one of the longest running, federally funded science professional development projects in the country (https://web.uri.edu/gemsnet/). GEMS-NET partners with more than a third of RI school districts to provide ongoing professional development for all teachers, curricula recommendations that align with the Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards, and leadership development for teachers and principals. We anticipate that the successful candidate will play an integral role in GEMS-NET to support the established and sustained research practice partnership by designing and carrying out research to help inform the project's future innovations.

The successful candidate will participate as a core faculty member in the pre-service elementary teacher education program as well as COEDU graduate programs. The selected candidate will be expected to engage in scholarly research, publication, and presentation at professional conferences; secure internal and/or external grant funding; teach undergraduate and graduate courses; participate in department and university committees; and develop and maintain collaborative and professional partnerships with local schools and districts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Developing and maintaining an appropriate agenda of research and funding; teaching elementary methods courses including, but not limited to science education; supervising teacher candidates in residency placements; advising undergraduate and graduate students; and engaging in sustainable partnerships with local schools and districts to build knowledge and improve practices that serve a diverse population of students. Duties may also include teaching courses and advising in additional programs in the College.

For complete details about the position, including required and preferred qualifications, and the application process itself, please visit the URI Jobs website at https://jobs.uri.edu/postings/14319 to apply and view complete details for job posting (F00451).

The search will remain open until the position has been filled. First consideration will be given to applications received by January 3, 2025. Applications received after January 3, 2025 may be reviewed depending on search progress and needs but are not guaranteed full consideration.

APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED ONLINE ONLY.
