Position Summary:
The faculty member teaches courses within the Biology and Health Sciences programs in accordance with the schedule of classes and following the approved course description and curricular guidelines established by the faculty of the College of Health and Natural Sciences.  Non-teaching assignments include curricula and instructional development, academic advising, office hours, and assisting students; registration assignments, participating in Program, College and University-wide activities, committees, and task forces; maintaining an active program of scholarly work and other appropriate responsibilities as described in the Collective Bargaining Agreement and Faculty Handbook. 

Essential Functions:

  • Teaching undergraduate courses including Anatomy and Physiology I and II with lab, Introduction to Biology I and II with lab and upper-level biology courses such as immunology, developmental biology, biotechnology or within the applicant’s area of expertise
  • Teaching other College-wide courses including the First Year Experience, as needed
  • Contributing to the development of the Biology and Health Sciences programs
  • Supervising independent studies and internships when appropriate
  • Advising Biology, Health Science, and other College of Health and Natural Science undergraduates
  • Attending admission open house programs or related events
  • Actively participating in Program, College and University-wide task forces and committees
  • Engaging in professional development activities to foster aspects of learning within the professional academic community external to the University.
  • Developing/continuing a scholarly agenda that includes undergraduate student researchers.

Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Biology, Health Sciences (earned doctorate by the time of appointment) or terminal degree in a closely related field (e.g. MD). Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the college level and a strong commitment to undergraduate education, research, and advising.
