Job Description:

OFFICIAL TITLE: Staff Associate, Counselor (10-month position)
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Director of Counseling Services
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May supervise student employees, as assigned.

General Statement of Duties: The Staff Associate/Counselor is part of a team of professionals responsible for administering and delivering mental health services to students of Worcester State University. This is a ten-month position, under the general supervision of the Director of Counseling Services.

Responsibilities:

  1. (E) Provide mental health services including, individual and group counseling services.
  2. (E) Provide necessary case management services to ensure utilization of both on-campus and of-campus support systems as needed.
  3. (E) Assist in the implementation of mental health outreach to the university community to include classroom presentations, new student orientations, faculty training, as well as other innovative outreach activities.
  4. (E) Provide academic advising as it relates to student mental health needs and facilitate on campus referrals to academic support services.
  5. (E) Participate in committees, professional development and research.
  6. (E) Participate in departmental strategic planning development.
  7. (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students.
  8. (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan.
  9. (E) Responsible for contributing to Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action objectives.
  10. (E) Create intentional partnerships across campus.
  11. (E) Maintains current knowledge of University policies and procedures.
  12. (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:
  • Must be independently licensed in the state of MA (LICSW, LHMC)
  • Master's Degree in counseling, social work or related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience providing crisis intervention and direct clinical services to a diverse population.
  • Ability to de-escalate crises, conduct safety assessments and implement safety planning
  • Ability to express self in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to successfully pass a thorough background and CORI check.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Higher Education principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Prior experience in a college/university counseling center
  • Knowledge of LGBTQ+, First Generation and BIPOC population risk factors and experience providing clinical treatment to these populations.
  • Experience working with and providing clinical treatment to those with substance use disorders.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time (10-month), benefited, exempt, professional APA position. This is a 10-month position, with a 9-week non-service period from May- July. The firm annual salary range for this position is $55,000- $60,000, commensurate with relevant professional experience and education.
