The University of Chicago in partnership with Michigan State University is launching a second three-year NSF Summer Institute in Advanced Quantitative Methods for STEM education research. The institute focuses on developing leadership among a new generation of early- and mid-career researchers of STEM education, especially those making research endeavors to promote STEM learning among students from underrepresented backgrounds. A diverse cohort of 25 NSF SIARM-for-STEM Fellows will be selected to

  • attend summer courses in 2025 and 2026 in research designs and causal inference, measurement, social network analysis/computational methods, multilevel modeling, and causal mediation and decomposition analyses;
  • engage in daily round-table discussions each summer;
  • receive continuous methodological support between summers;
  • complete and present a high-quality signature project in summer 2027;
  • receive support from the advisory board, expand professional networks, and develop leadership visions and skills.

Applicants must have obtained a PhD or EdD degree by Summer 2025. Review of applications will begin December 9. Applications will be accepted through January 6. More information is available at https://voices.uchicago.edu/nsf-siarm/; to apply: https://apply-ssd.uchicago.edu/portal/summer
