Job Details
The Department of Computer Science at Swarthmore College invites applications for multiple two-year Visiting Assistant Professor positions to begin fall semester 2025. Applicants must have or expect to have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field by the position's start date. All areas of computer science will be considered. The Department especially welcomes candidates who conduct interdisciplinary research in the humanities and social sciences.
The Computer Science Department currently has eleven tenure-track faculty and five visiting faculty. Faculty teach introductory courses as well as advanced courses in their research areas. Visiting faculty teach the same course load as tenure-track faculty, are provided mentoring and professional development opportunities, and are eligible for funds to support research, conference travel, and student summer research.
Our department has grown significantly in both faculty and students since 2019. Presently, we are one of the most popular majors at the College, with approximately 15-20% of the College’s students earning a CS degree each year. Our majors and minors are much more diverse than the national averages in CS, including approximately 35% female majors.
Previous VAPs have moved on to tenure track positions at top liberal arts colleges (including Swarthmore) and teaching-focused roles at large universities.
