Strengthening the Heartland ( STH ), a dynamic multi-state initiative based at South Dakota State University ( SDSU ), is seeking a Program Manager to lead their innovative, grant-funded career and life readiness project. In this role, you’ll play a key part in empowering communities by overseeing the implementation of programs at sites in South Dakota and West Virginia. Supervised by dedicated faculty within the School of Education, Counseling, and Human Development, this position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference. This is a temporary, 100% grant-funded role, with potential continuation for up to five years based on ongoing funding. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota , and is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.
STH was developed through the collaborative efforts of faculty from South Dakota State University Extension and North Dakota State University Extension. With generous grant support from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the mission of STH is to invest in the wellness and prosperity of rural communities across the Dakotas and beyond.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
The primary responsibility of the manager is to oversee the day-to-day implementation of career and life readiness programs at community sites in South Dakota and West Virginia. Duties include:
- Assist in developing career and life readiness lesson plans tailored for middle school students
- Conduct virtual curriculum training sessions with community site staff
- Schedule and lead quarterly informational meetings with community site staff
- Support program evaluation by distributing evaluation tools, collecting forms, data entry, and quality control
- Moderate quarterly educational webinars featuring guest speakers for human service professionals
- Coordinate and conduct qualitative interviews with pilot partners
- Monitor and respond to inquiries from the project’s email listserv

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor’s degree in Human/Social Science or Education related field completed by start date;
- CITI Ethics in Research certification;
- At least one year of experience working for or with a community-based or school-based organization;
- Experience working with community-based sites and stakeholders;
- Experience supervising student employees;
- Experience developing career and/or youth life skills curricula;
- Experience related to data collection and program evaluation;
- Ability to travel;
- Basic knowledge of word processing software;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Excellent organizational and record keeping skills;
- Willingness to adapt schedule based on project needs;
- and
- Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- Master’s degree in a human/social science or education related field;
- Experience working with school-based sites;
- Experience with multi-state programming related to career exploration and life skills; and
- Knowledge of youth development, particularly social-emotional development.
