Job Description

The Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Missouri School of Medicine seeks outstanding applicants for multiple full-time tenure-track/tenured positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

The department is seeking candidates that will enhance our scope of research in the areas of bacterial pathogenesis and metabolic regulation of inflammation, including crosstalk between the microbiome and the immune system.

This position will be expected to contribute to the training of graduate students in our Translational Biosciences PhD Program and to education of undergraduate and/or medical students and to participate in departmental and university service and committee activities.

We are one of only six public universities nationwide that can claim schools or colleges of medicine, veterinary medicine, agriculture, engineering, arts and science, law, and research reactor—all on the same campus. There is great potential to collaborate with individuals across campus.

The University of Missouri boasts state-of-the-art research facilities including newly renovated space in the Medical Sciences Building, NextGen Precision Health building, and the Bond Life Sciences Center. Outstanding Core facilities for Flow Cytometry, Genomics, Metabolomics, Proteomics, Bioinformatics and Analytics, and Light and Electron microscopy are in proximity to the School of Medicine. MU is also home to the Laboratory for Infectious Disease Research, a Regional Biocontainment Lab with more than 10,000 square feet of space for studies of pathogens that require BSL-3 containment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD, MD or MD/PhD or equivalent degree in microbiology, immunology, or appropriate related discipline.
Candidates will be evaluated on:
  • A track record of research productivity and accomplishments.
  • Demonstrated potential to establish or maintain an internationally-recognized, externally-funded research program.
  • Robust publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • A research focus on bacterial pathogenesis, host responses to infection and/or metabolic regulation of inflammation and the microbiome.
