The University of Montana, Department of Computer Science, invites applications for a tenure- track Assistant Professor to begin August, 2025.
We welcome applications from all specializations with preference given to individuals whose research interests complement our department. In addition to traditional areas of computer science, we welcome candidates working in interdisciplinary, emerging, and socially-engaged areas of computing research. Successful candidates should hold a doctorate in computer science or have completed a thesis centered on the development of innovative computational techniques; evidence of or potential for both teaching and research excellence; effective oral and written communication skills; an ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate computer science courses; a history of successful research at the intersection of computer science and other fields; a willingness to participate in locally responsive research to mitigate and manage wildfire risk ; and a commitment to recruiting and teaching diverse groups of students.
Our computer science faculty effectively balance professional responsibilities with a fulfilling lifestyle that embraces Montana’s stunning natural environment. Our core research areas encompass machine learning, bioinformatics, neuroscience, wearable computing, physics-based simulation, software engineering, and computer science education. Position Details
Tenurable Faculty: Department of Computer Science
Title: Assistant Professor
Schedule: Full time, Academic year position (10 months)
Salary: $95,000- $105,000
Benefits: Medical Insurance/Mandatory Retirement Contribution/Professional Development/Partial Tuition Waiver/Wellness
Primary Duties: Primary duties include teaching, scholarship, and service.
Qualifications
- Doctorate in computer science or a closely related field
- An ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses
