Emporia State University (Emporia, Kansas) invites applications for the position of Study Abroad and Programming Coordinator. The position reports to the Executive Director of International Education and is a key member of the Office of International Education. This position advises students interested in education abroad and inbound short-term visiting students.

 

This role provides information on education abroad and exchange program options, visa process, travel orientation, vaccination requirements, travel preparation, insurance, course transfer process, and funding options. This position assists incoming exchange students with academic and immigration advising. The incumbent will also plan and execute a variety of cross-cultural programming events throughout the academic year.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Advise Study Abroad Students: 35%

  • Advise ESU students, incoming exchange students, and visiting scholars about ESU managed programs and exchanges abroad as well as affiliated partner programs, including familiarity with promotional materials, curricular offerings, procedures, and other administrative aspects of education abroad at ESU.
  • Serve as the primary contact for all aspects of the advising, application, and re-entry processes for study abroad.

 

Develop Study Abroad Programs and Resources: 45%

  • Work with various campus departments and international partners to develop and implement regular faculty-led Study Abroad programs.
  • Develop and conduct workshops and orientation of faculty and students.
  • Develop education abroad scholarship resources.
  • Serve as a liaison to affiliated education abroad partners.
  • Ensure activities are in compliance with the industry's concepts, practices, and procedures.

 

Develop Campus-Wide Cross-Cultural Programming: 10%

  • Develop and conduct cross-cultural programming throughout the year for international and domestic students.
  • Lead and oversee primary programming events.

Complete assessments and associated reports to measure cross-cultural learning.

 

Administrative Support: 10%

  • Maintain the Terra Dotta Study Abroad software.
  • Produce reports on education abroad activities and outbound student mobility.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Serve as an ARO in SEVIS.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and five years of experience.
  • Five years of relevant work experience.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to the needs and expectations of students with different backgrounds.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Excellent intercultural and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Previous Study Abroad participation and/or international travel experience.
  • Working knowledge of SEVIS and current J-1 regulations.

COMPENSATION:

  • Salary: $43,403 annually
