Description

The Peabody Preparatory is pleased to announce an Adjunct Collaborative Pianist position in the String Department at the Frederick Campus, Peabody Preparatory. The successful candidate will join a highly skilled and dedicated string faculty as part of a vibrant and active department committed to helping all students achieve their potential; we embrace the novice musician as well as the serious student aspiring toward a career in music. The potential exists for this position to grow into a larger position by accompanying other instruments, such as voice.

Artistic Responsibilities:

The collaborative pianist works closely with the Chair of the Preparatory String Department and the Manager of the Accompanying Program to schedule solo accompanying and group class assignments. Duties include:
  • accompanying group classes, studio classes, recitals, and other String Department events
  • meeting independently as necessary with string students for rehearsal and coaching.
Responsibilities, including weekly group class, rehearsals, recitals, and occasional external events, will be 3 hours per week for our 32-week academic year.

Reports to: String Department Chair, Accompanying Program Manager

Classification: Adjunct (3 hours per week)

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in music and or music education required. Master's degree or equivalent experience and training preferred.
  • Experience as a classical collaborative artist and coach/pianist
  • Knowledge of classical string repertoire - violin, viola, and cello
  • Familiarity with Suzuki Violin/Viola/Cello repertoire a plus
  • Knows how to work supportively with string students of all levels
  • Available evenings and weekends for group classes and recitals
  • Independent transport to all of Peabody’s campuses, including Frederick (main duty), Towson, and Howard County, as well as the downtown Mt. Vernon location (occasionally as needed).

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
