George Mason University seeks an accomplished leader and subject-matter expert for the role of Assistant Vice President and Treasurer. The AVP & Treasurer will be part of the VP of Finance’s senior leadership team and will provide new leadership in a broadly defined treasury position, collaborating with colleagues across the University to develop and review the strategic financial plans, policies, and business processes needed to ensure that George Mason remains a financially strong world-class institution.

 The Assistant Vice President and Treasurer is a pivotal position leading all aspects of the University’s Treasury Management Department, newly established in 2021. The Treasurer will support treasury management operations focused on strategic planning and performance measurement, develop processes and policies, and manage the resources of the treasury management function including identifying, evaluating, and implementing a Treasury Management System (TMS) as well as work closely with leadership across the university, bond counsel, financial advisors, bankers, rating agencies, investment advisors and auditors. 

The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill leadership and mentoring responsibilities that provide equitable and inclusive working environments to the staff they supervise and the faculty, staff, and students they work with.  Working with and through others, the successful candidate is expected to demonstrate the following skills and qualifications:  a Master’s or other advanced degree in accounting business, management, or finance preferred; equivalent combination of Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, management, or finance required and experience may substitute for the advanced degree; relevant Investment / Financial Professional designations/certifications (e.g., CTP, CFA,) also preferred; a minimum of 10 years of progressively comprehensive experience in a wide range of Treasury functions including working capital management, cash management, banking, debt management, investment portfolio management and performance reporting, as well as supervisory experience and experience in higher education, banking, consulting, or other large, complex environments with multiple revenue streams (including state support) is preferred.
