Position Summary:
The Career Advisor, Deloitte Pathways Program is a key member of the Career Development team working collaboratively and independently to launch career and professional programming for underrepresented students at Willamette University. These initiatives and activities include: providing career support, creating workshops and professional programs for historically underrepresented students, supporting students in their internship search, building and maintaining a professional network, and providing leadership and direction to equity-focused education and training for Career Development staff.

The Career Advisor, Renjen/Deloitte Pathways Program must be committed to serving underrepresented students, skilled at forming relationships with faculty and staff in other EDI-focused areas (such as the Intercultural Engagement and Inclusion), interested in being a point of contact for diversity-focused student organizations and groups, and prepared to work with campus partners in developing programs to better respond to the unique needs of underrepresented students.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop innovative career programming in collaboration with the Career Development team and other key stakeholders to benefit students at Willamette University with a specific focus on engaging underrepresented students.

Design and deliver workshops and programs in collaboration with the professional schools aimed at increasing the career exploration and readiness of historically underrepresented students.
  • Organize, recruit for, and attend events including alumni speaker series, workshops, and site visits to employers.
  • Build relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, employers, parents, and donors in order to support students in their career discovery.
  • Assess, track, and monitor program participation and effectiveness and make adjustments as needed.
  • Develop a network of underrepresented alumni career mentors in partnership with the Advancement and Alumni Relations team.
  • Assist with programming coordinated by others in Career Development and Career Management.
  • Support events hosted by the Student Center for Equity & Empowerment, the Office of Intercultural Engagement and Inclusion, the Gender Resource and Advocacy Center (GRAC), and the Students Organizing for Access to Resources (SOAR) Center.
  • Career Advising: Provides career support and skill development to undergraduate students at Willamette University.
  • May assist with teaching Career Development coursework dependent on candidate experience.
  • Effectively utilize a programming budget to advance the DEI initiatives of Career Development for student benefit, and to lead efforts in staff DEI training and development.
  • Other responsibilities and projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity with experience in providing support and advocacy for diverse communities (includes but not limited to: race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, socioeconomic status, immigration status) in addition to awareness of one's own racial, ethnic, gender, sexual, or cultural identity.
  • Skilled in monitoring/assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements.
  • Skilled in event coordination, programming, and promotion.
  • Knowledge or ability to quickly learn about Willamette programs, career development, employers, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, employment trends.
  • Ability to design and modify computer applications to meet program needs, problem identification, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organization skills.
  • Proven ability to work with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Displays the ability to facilitate group discussions, workshops, activities, presentations, and reflections.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree
  • 1-3 years of professional experience


Typical Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. Hybrid work schedule available
