Position Summary:
The Counseling and Prevention Services (CAPS) Office at The College of New Jersey is seeking a skilled and compassionate Clinical Generalist to provide high-quality mental health services to our diverse student body. This role involves both direct clinical care and administrative coordination, with a focus on group therapy and case management. The Clinical Generalist will play a critical role in supporting students’ mental health needs and fostering a healthy campus community.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct Clinical Care
- Conduct mental health assessments, intake evaluations, and group screenings.
- Provide individual, couples, and group psychotherapy.
- Offer crisis support, including urgent/walk-in coverage and after-hours calls.
- Deliver consultations, including psychological test interpretations and feedback.
- Support campus-wide well-being through programs like “Friends Helping Friends” activities.
Coordinator Responsibilities
- Take a lead role in coordinating CAPS group services, including developing new groups, training staff, advertising, and maintaining service statistics.
- Serve as the departmental case manager for students needing higher levels of care, overseeing referrals to community providers.
- Coordinate care for students with eating concerns, collaborating with the College dietitian/nutritionist to develop comprehensive care plans.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Manage referrals for ongoing care and coordinate closely with other CAPS staff.
- Liaise with on-campus stakeholders to ensure alignment of CAPS services with broader campus initiatives.
- Attend administrative staff meetings and actively participate in CAPS planning and operational discussions.
Qualifications:
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- Licensure or license-eligibility in New Jersey (LPC, LCSW, or Licensed Psychologist).
- Experience providing individual and group therapy, particularly within a college or university setting.
- Strong crisis management and case management skills.
- Dedication to equity, diversity, and inclusion in mental health care.
