About the Position:
The Department of Global and Community Health (GCH), located within the College of Public Health at George Mason University is seeking adjunct faculty to teach courses within the Undergraduate (UG) programs in the Department. Course delivery modalities will primarily involve in-person instruction. Exact courses available to adjunct faculty will vary, depending on Department needs and faculty expertise, but may include public health topics such as global health, One Health, program evaluation, policy and advocacy, and biostatistics.
Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Academic Department Chair or Director:
Facilitate Class Instruction
- Teaches the assigned class in accordance with the established learning objectives and session plan outlines as displayed in the approved syllabus.
- Collaborates with the adjunct coordinator to obtain approved syllabi from the designated course lead for the course that they will be teaching; and
- Develops course materials as needed and adhering to the syllabi for all assessments, assignments and/or discussion exercises that permit assessment of standardized course learning objectives.
- Reviews any textbook and other course changes and communicating any identified errors in the syllabus or course with the faculty course lead and academic department chair/director.
- Administers evaluations of student performance based on course deliverables and course rubrics. All course grades will be posted in Canvas.
- Coordinates with the academic department chair/director to develop and deliver course performance metrics for evaluation and accreditation purposes.
- Adheres to protocol guidelines as part of participation in any communication or honor code determination as determined by the Department.
- Promptly submits grades for any assignments, discussion board exercises, and exams and course completion; and
- Inputs midterm and final grades in PatriotWeb.
- Master's degree in a related discipline, with relevant work experience;
- Previous experience in online instruction and in higher education is highly preferred;
- Experience in Canvas LMS is highly preferred; and
- The ability to work well with colleagues and respond promptly to students is essential.
