Empire Promise Program Advisor
Empire State University's Office of Opportunity Programs seeks a full-time Empire Promise Program Advisor (State Title: Academic Advisor) with the expectation to provide proactive support and advisement for undergraduate students who are a part of the program. The role requires the incumbent to foster a sense of community, belongingness, and care amongst students.
The Empire Promise Advisor will provide academic advisement, as well as assist in managing a range of student success items, such as taking a helping role in facilitating the Opportunity Programs (OP) new student orientation (Summer/Winter Institute), regular monthly programming, and outreach that encourages close connections between students and the university. The selected incumbent must be knowledgeable about academic advisement, student services, and programming at the college/university level, as well as familiarity with working with adult/post-traditional students, specifically those from diverse backgrounds, and underrepresented populations, in both face-to-face and online learning environments. This position requires dedication to developing innovative ways to reach and engage students, affect student persistence, and provide holistic student development and support.
Responsibilities:
Advisement
- Serve as Empire Promise Program (EPP) students' primary mentor (academic advisor) throughout the entire matriculated lifecycle. Provide coaching and student support services by meeting with students regularly and connecting with instructors routinely to ensure the program is informed of all student's academic progress.
- Deliver/instruct degree planning to EPP students. Liaise with Academic Review to amend degree plans, as needed. Develop career and graduate school opportunity resources that are attuned to the needs of the EPP student.
Student Services
- Identify and address academic concerns, assisting students who support in finding policies, processes, and services. Collaborate with university offices to ensure students are appropriately supported and informed.
- Check student academic progress weekly and follow up with students individually. Check-in with instructors to discuss student progress within their course.
- Input and update information into CRM Advise and other university systems.
Program Governance, Support, and Professional Development
- Further their professional development through participation in related program activities.
- Represent EPP or OP at necessary meetings and governance.
- Assist in other program functions at the discretion of the Director.
Programming
- Play an active role in preparing for and facilitating monthly enrichment programming, and the EPP Extended Student Orientation during the summer and winter.
- Assist in the delivery of OP/EPP programming throughout the academic year.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- A master's degree from an accredited college or university.
- A minimum of three years of professional experience in a higher educational setting.
- A minimum of two years in academic advising and/or counseling experience.
- Prior experience working with college students in digital learning environments and asynchronous and synchronous online settings.
- Prior experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, particularly those underrepresented or underserved.
- Prior experience in working with opportunity and/or access programs, diverse populations, or disadvantaged students.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A master's degree or coursework in higher education, counseling, or a related field.
- Experience with adult or non-traditional students.
- Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English.
Special Information:
- May involve occasional travel.
- May require occasional evening and/or weekend work.
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Rank/Salary: SL3 / $60,000.
