Company
The University of Hartford is a private, independent, comprehensive institution of higher education. With seven distinctive schools and colleges, the University is widely recognized for the entrepreneurial spirit reflected in the diversity, breadth, and imagination of its academic programs. In addition to offering 89 undergraduate majors, the University offers 33 graduate-degree programs.
Students attending the University represent 48 states and 62 foreign countries. The University's student population consists of 4,694 full-time undergraduates, 804 part-time undergraduates, and 1,682 graduate students. The University's faculty, 88 percent of whom hold the terminal degree in their field, enjoy world-renowned academic reputations and take a personal interest in helping students reach their goals. The student-faculty ratio is 12 to 1, with the educational experience taking place in small, supportive classroom environments.
The University dates back to 1877, when the first of its original three schools were founded. With a spacious and scenic 350-acre wooded suburban campus located in Hartford, West Hartford, and Bloomfield, the University features housing for 3,500 students, a modern sports and recreation complex, and a performing arts venue, Lincoln Theater. At the heart of the campus is the Harry Jack Gray Center, housing the University¹s libraries, conference facilities, and an art gallery (Joseloff Gallery).
It is fitting that an institution forged by the community should be an integral part of that community. The University has two public magnet schools on its campus-an elementary school and a high school concentrating in science and engineering. The Center for Community Service gives students, faculty, staff, and alumni access to volunteer opportunities throughout Greater Hartford. The Center for Integrated Design, the Engineering Applications Center, the Center for Professional Development and the Upper Albany Micro Business Incubator program are just a few of the resources available to area businesses and industry.
Today's University of Hartford has surpassed the founders' original but modest plans for a local university in Hartford, becoming instead a vibrant comprehensive University.
