Job Details
The Department of Human-Centered Computing, in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering at IU Indianapolis (IUI), invites applicants for a lecturer appointment in the Media Arts and Science Program. The Media Arts and Science Program combines cutting-edge technology with creative storytelling to prepare students for successful careers in various digital media fields. We are seeking a passionate and experienced full-time lecturer to join our Game Design and Development specialization. This is a non-tenure track position with a 4/4 teaching load and opportunities for promotion to the ranks of senior lecturer and teaching professor. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the theoretical, practical, and applied aspects of game design, with industry experience and a demonstrated commitment to student-centered learning.
The appointment will begin August 1, 2025, at the IU Indianapolis campus.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Teaching assigned courses in Game Design and Development, and related subjects within the Media Arts and Science Program.
- Developing courses for the traditional classroom setting, computer labs, and for online education
- Helping set and achieve program and specialization goals
- Developing and continually updating the curriculum to keep pace with current industry trends and empirical teaching practices
- Contributing to the recruitment and marketing of the program
- Mentoring students in game projects and providing career guidance
- Interviewing, evaluating, and advising students
- Engaging in scholarly activity
- Serving as a member of Luddy School’s departmental and program committees
- Maintaining current knowledge and skillset in the Game Design and Development profession through active participation in professional organizations, collaboration, practice, and research
- Attending and contributing to faculty meetings
Basic Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in game design, media arts and science, computer science, or related fields.
- Five years of industry experience in the game design and development field.
- Demonstrated ability to teach a broad range of game design and development courses; comprehensive and extensive knowledge and experience in game design and development methods and techniques, including multiplayer and XR experiences.
- Proficiency in game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine 5, Godot) and programming languages relevant to game development
- Strong understanding of interactive and game design principles, mechanics, and production pipelines that produce memorable immersive gameplay experiences.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Student-centered approach to teaching and learning
- Demonstrated ability to learn new game design and development methods and approaches.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching experience at the university level
- At least one year of professional management experience
- Published games or significant contributions to shipped titles
- Experience with emerging technologies in gaming (e.g., VR/AR, AI in games)
- Proficiency in the creation of game characters, worlds, and lore, etc.
- Active participation in game development communities or professional organizations
