Position Summary:

The Assistant Dean for Student Advising and Development is a member of the Academic Affairs leadership team in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) and reports to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. The leadership team is comprised of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Senior Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion, the Assistant Dean for Academic Programs and Policies, the Assistant Dean for Student Advising and Development, and the Director of Study Abroad and International Education.

The CALS Office of Academic Affairs (http://www.cals.wisc.edu/academics) serves as the academic dean's office for all undergraduates in the college, as well as for Farm and Industry Short Course students (http://www.fisc.cals.wisc.edu). The office administers the college Honors Program, QuickStart, CALS Career Services, underrepresented student recruitment and retention, international programs, scholarship programs, transitional advising services, curriculum and advising oversight, study abroad, and other academic affairs. The office is a team-based environment and works in close collaboration with academic and administrative departments.

The priorities of the position support the mission of CALS Academic Affairs to serve all students through their time on campus and into future career paths. In partnership with the Associate Dean and the leadership team, this position will foster a supportive environment and create/enhance opportunities for intellectual, personal, and professional development for all students.

The Assistant Dean for Student Advising and Development is responsible for leadership in career and academic advising by leading a college level team, providing leadership and vision in partnering with departments across the college and collaborating across campus in these areas. This position also leads student services (e.g. student orgs, student leadership initiatives) and student facing communication and events including Commencement and SOAR (Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration). The individual filling this role must work well with students, faculty, staff, and administrators in a cooperative team environment.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

-At least 3 years of experience providing leadership for and working with academic and student programs and services.
-Preference given to experience in career or academic advising
-Preference given to those with knowledge in CALS disciplines

-Experience in academic advising, career advising, or students services in higher education setting
