The College of Arts & Sciences at Georgia State University seeks a skilled writer and multimedia content creator to tell the story of our college and highlight the value of academic programs and research across a wide range of fields in arts and sciences. As the College Communications Specialist, you will serve as the primary writer and content creator, developing press releases, feature stories, research news and marketing copy, as well as producing engaging video content shared across multiple platforms. Your role will involve identifying, pitching, reporting, writing, filming and editing impactful stories for a range of audiences, including prospective students and their families, faculty, staff, donors and institutional partners.
This position reports to the college’s Manager of Marketing and Public Relations and collaborates with PR and marketing professionals across the university, as well as faculty and administrators within our academic departments.
Essential duties and responsibilities of the Public Relations Coordinator are the following:
- Writing: Serve as the primary writer for the college’s communications team, developing high-quality content, including news releases, research stories, feature articles, web copy, and other marketing materials.
- Videography: Lead the college's video production efforts by planning, filming and editing videos, including video news releases and feature videos for distribution on digital platforms.
- Content Planning: Work with the college’s communications team to brainstorm and plan engaging content, keeping current with trends and techniques in video, photography and digital storytelling.
- Social Media and Web Content Support: Collaborate in creating social media and web content that showcases the achievements of students, alumni and faculty. Build web posts for news releases and feature stories.
- Equipment Management: Oversee video equipment and accessories, ensuring they are organized and well-maintained for all video shoots.
- Other Duties: Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and four years of related experience; or high school diploma or GED and eight years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
- Skilled communicator with experience crafting compelling narratives across formats.
- Journalism and digital marketing experience, ideally within higher education.
- Proficient in video and photo content creation, with working knowledge of cameras, microphones, lighting, and Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro).
- Ability to maintain university brand and editorial standards.
- Strong understanding of SEO, keyword research, and analytics.
- Passionate about higher education, with broad academic knowledge and interests.
